395 is such a nice drive. Until you get past Lone Pine...then it becomes desert and is pretty bland, unless you cut through Death Valley which would be nice this time of year. Maybe still a little hot depending on the weather.

Last February my wife and I drove from LA to Tahoe and back and there was snow covering the 395 from Bishop all the way to Tahoe, was in 4wd almost the entire 6 hours both ways

I went to Virginia City a few years ago and ate at The Red Dog Saloon. I had Irish Nachos that were to die for. If you like garlic these are what you are looking for.

As mentioned hit Virginia City if you're still around Carson. Otherwise the ride down 395 is killer with tons of camping options.

First, after you feel better you need to come back up to the East Side. It's worth it.

Second, if you asked me 15 years ago if I could ever live in Cali I would have said no way in hell. Then I spent a couple months in Bishop and that changed my outlook. Sure the state sucks as far as it's political viewpoints go but I work in Mammoth every day at 8000'. That's about 19.5% higher then the highest point on the East Coast. When I go wheeling I don't go to places like Rausch Creek. I go to places like Fordyce, the Rubi, the Dusy, and the Hammers just to name a few. I have a mountain range in my back yard that's square miles are bigger then most states on the East Coast. After living here I couldn't ever imagine living back east.

I agree. I hate CA politics and it's bigger cities, but go to counties like Humboldt, Shasta, etc and it's a gorgeous place.
