Landscaping blocks in composite bed?

I need to put 50 landscaping blocks in the new Tacoma. Will it scratch up the composite bed badly? I know its a truck, but it sure looks good and I hate to mess it up right away.

 

Get a bed mat. It'll save your bed and keep stuff from sliding around. Either get one at the dealer or like I did and buy an inexpensive large one and cut to size. A bed mat is a necessity on the composite.

 

^What he said. The Bed Mat is definitely worth the money IMO.

 

Set a wooden pallet in the back and stack the blocks on it. Or lay a piece of card board down. Appliance stores have the big sheets that big box appliances come in. Just a few ideas if you don't want to mar up the bed this soon.

You could buy a rubber bed mat. If you buy a rubber bed mat, buy after market, unless you have to have Toyota $$$ on the mat. I think I paid 59.00 for my rubber bed mat. Works great!

or get the bed rug, I love mine and it is very cleanable, hose, vacuum. Protects the entire bed and sides and is very comfy

 

Even if it does scratch it just the bed not like its the fenders or anything I say F it and just put em in there. A bed mat is a great investment though, I love mine.

I ordered the Protecta Heavy Weight Bed Mat 6964. I think I got mine for $70 from Truckcustomizers.com but the site is down right now. Its a full 3/8" thick and nothing slides on it.good luck

 

Its bound to happen, just break it in.

 

I like being able to slide stuff around back there. It makes loading heavy objects much easier when you can lift one end onto the gate and then slide it into the bed.

Personally, I never got the purpose of bed mats, car bras, etc... you are hiding what you want to protect... what is the point? If you cover it, you can't see how pretty it is....even if it is immaculate. Then one day 7 years down the road, you take off the car bra and because it is worn out, and you have pretty paint on an itty-bit of your car... and it looks rediculous that way too.

 

The point of a bed mat most of the time is not to protect the bed but just to prevent things from sliding around in the back there. I bought mine because I had the marine battery for my boat in the back and it was a pain in the ass trying to get that thing to stay put and an 80lb battery isnt something you really want sliding around. However car bras are gay that ill agree with you on.

 

I hear ya about not wanting the load to slide... but that is what straps are for... I added extra tiedowns and have a dozen ratchet straps in the box.

 

True, but for things that are too small to be tied down, but will slide around, the bed mat is much more convenient to keep things from sliding around. I plan on purchasing one in the near future. I keep bungee cords in the bed of my truck but I wish I had the bed mat. I could care less about scratching it since mine is really scratched up already. My tonneau cover hides the scratched up bed

 

Nevermind the bed mat...if you don't have 4 leaf springs on each side you will bottom out on the way home in hidious fashion.

 

I did about thirty and didn't have any problems with suspension.

 

That's why you alternate having it on for awhile when you need it for long frwy cruises then take it off for awhile. Then you don't have to worry about the paint issue. Garage also helps the rest stay same as what's protected by the bra. And have 2 so when you take one off to clean it so it doesn't ruin the paint from all the crap that gets inside it, you have the other ready to go back on. Don't hate the bra, hate not knowing how to use it. IMO, bras on trucks are stupid tho.

 

Just put a blanket on the bed and then put the blocks on it. The weight of the blocks will not move the blanket so you will be OK.

 

Blanket...cardboard...pallet...piece of plywood...

All good ideas.

But a bed mat is the way to go. I've had one in almost every truck I've owned. They are simple stupid. Easy to remove. Good protection and keep stuff from sliding around.

And...I went all out this time and paid the big bucks...90 of them to be exact...and got the OEM "Tacoma" bed mat. Sure it cost a little more...but that's how I roll. lol

 

I own a landscaping company and regularly throw cement blocks, landscape boulders, gravel, etc. in my bare bed all the time.
Does no damage at all, nothing else necessary.
Hose it out afterwards and do it again and again.
The bed doesn't scratch easily and holds up fine.

Keeps things from sliding when you don't want them to, easy to remove when you want them to slide. Easy to wash when needed.

 

Rural King & Tractor supply have rubber mats for $30 you can trim to fit, I trimmed the one out of my 06 Tundra to fit.
