2019 2.7 runs rough when cold

When you say hesitate / surge are you talking about at idle ?

 

I'm not familiar with the 2.7 or Toyota EFI in general since this is my first one (and I have the 3.5) but don't think it's a sensor issue. Looks like the truck runs fine when it's closed loop (using the sensors) but poorly in open loop and not using them. Does the computer adjust those tables (open) or are the set and only the closed are adjusted? Only reason I can think of it run poorly when cold but fine with warm.

 

my truck runs fine on 87 octane with 15% corn alcohol, I think this situation has been way overthought the truck does need some time to get to operating temperature after it reaches that mine purrs like a kitten, the slight hesitation u feel is because of the drive by wire throttle control system combined with a low HP 4 cylinder engine, theres no immediate power on demand like a 6 or 8 cylinder engine would have.

 

I think he means the truck doesn't take off like a rocket ship, that's because its a 4 cylinder engine and a slow one at that

 

I just bought a 2.7 4x4 Sr and it’s transmission is a little quirky cold .....my friend at work said his is that way too and always has been...that’s for his 18 taco and 17 tundra trd sport....

No, when I accelerate up to 40 MPH on the road I live on. It has a smooth idle.

 

I don’t think it’s been overthought at all. I’ve owned over a dozen vehicles some with over 300k miles on them and never ran crappy when cold. If it’s a gasoline issue in my truck then I can understand , maybe it doesn’t like bp or maybe I got some crappy gas. But I shouldn’t have to wait to let it warm up so it doesn’t run bad. Yes , I understand letting a vehicle warm up is better , but this is a brand new truck and I shouldn’t be experiencing these issues. Unless of course it doesn’t like bp. Then I get it.

Give it a chance and see what the dealer says. I too am Skeptical. But who knows.

The RVP of RFG is actually lower than areas with a summer blend.

Been watching it closely these last few days . For whatever reason it didn’t do it a a day here or there but overall it’s still doing it. This morning I was carefully listening and as someone else described it as sounding like a baby sneezing. That’s the exact sound it made while missing. Going to go ahead and take it in soon.

No. Still doing same thing. Haven’t bothered taking it to dealer. I eventually will and when I do I’ll update.

 

@1776Taco Do you happen to have an AFe cold air intake installed or some other CAI installed? I had no sputtering issue on a cold motor until after I installed my AFe CAI. I've even cleaned the MAF every 5k mile oil change. But mine will definitely buck first thing in the morning even after a 30-45 second warm up. Will buck a bit with anything over 20% throttle rolling out of the neighborhood until it's fully warmed up. Then it's back to it's usual quite reliable 2.7L self.
