Brand new ARB locker leaking air

    OME 884’s ,Dakar hd’s, Jba uca, lce header, 4.88’s, Arb locker , j shift tcase-T4R, arb bumper, leer topper, 3500w inverter, mad wife, scratched paint, skid plates, snorkelerer, led flush mount reverse lights, etc..
    Ordered mine November 2018 installed December. Used 2-3 times without fault, was checking the system over tonight and I sprung a leak into the housing. Emailed ecgs will report back

    Just called ecgs to let them know I have a leaking air seal in my
    $1,110 rd129 air locking differential
    rd129 arb locker. This past weekend was the second time I’ve used the locker since February when I sent it back to them to change my last air seal.

    Are you running your compressor over 100psi? The ARB air lockers don’t need a lot of PSI. You should have a 105 psi shut off on it. Also, a 1-2 gallon tank will actuate it 50+ times.

    Ecgs is covering the cost.. just sucks to have to send it back to them again.

    I’m using an
    $338 arb ckma12 on-board air compressor high performance 12 volt for air locker differentials and tire inflation
    arb ckma12 compressor with their solenoids and pressure switch. I’d be surprised if their kit supplied more pressure than their lockers can handle.

    Is this since the new, new German seals? I got mine replaced a few months back, 3rd set of seals, so far so good. ECGS has top notch customer service. They offered to bring the truck in, since I live relatively close.

    I don’t know what seal they put in it last time, but it was February 2019, and I could’ve sworn it was supposed to be “the newest” seal at the time. But based on them taking two weeks to get it back to me, when they said it would be two days, I don’t have much faith in what they did last time.

    They had the newest seals from Germany around late march. I had mine installed in april.

    IMO the design is better. The way they actuate the locker is different and doesn’t rely on a lip seal to seal against a rotating part. I’ve I’m understanding it correctly, the ARB design is seeing wear even during daily driving without using the locker. The TJM actuator doesn’t have this issue. There is no seal against a rotating part.

    that’s not good on the ARB. But I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Harrop. Well I take that back, one negative I’ve heard is that there could be a potential for 1/4 Rotation of free wheel spin in certain situations. but I’ve heard great durability always worked when needed very fast actuation can engage in Any drive mode. And no leaky issues of the ARB. Right now it’s the direction I’m heading for sure. Prolly skip on a front locker and Harrop in the rear when I re gear.

    Even before this thread started, I found a lot of people having issues with ARB lockers that leaked. I found hundreds of complaints dating back at least a decade. That's pretty much why I begin looking for other options.

    Was this issue of a "bad batch" of seals exclusive with the 8.4 rear ARB? I just purchased a front ARB and was wondering if there are any known issues with the front ARB locker/seals for the clamshell as of late?

    I would ask the vendor you purchased from, if they could verify that your recently purchased locker is not part of the batch that had the bad seals. My new lockers are leak free.

    . If it was made within a certain time frame it has the bad seal. It doesn’t matter about the make Jeep, Ford, Chevy, Dodge all had bad seals too.

    The lockers have serial numbers on them.

    People didnt really have problems with the front lockers because only the spider gears turn unless your in 4x4. so it doesn’t build up heat like the rear
