Ok so I have been looking all over the forum for this and can't seem to find anything. So I used this in my rear diff: https://www.redlineoil.com/75w90-gl-5-gear-oil, says its for LS diffs. But I don't see anyone using this stuff from Red Line in there diffs. Only reason I used it is because I trust Red line and there recommended fluid. Can someone let me know if this is the right stuff???

I believe the Owners Manual calls for 75W-85 but sure you can put something else in.

Yes I have seen ppl using 75w90 and not the 75w85 because it cost a good bit more. I am more interested in the additional friction modifiers that this has.

We don't have mechanical limited slip so I can't imagine friction modifiers being necessary

Great so I wasted $60 filling this up with this Red line fluid, unless there in no harm in leaving it in.

You’re totally fine with that, RL even makes a 75W85, but it’s not needed.

The dealer will even put in 75W90 bulk gear oil.

Redline's product page (screenshot below) lists the Toyota 08885-81006 oil (Toyota's 75w-85 GL-5 differential gear oil) under the OEM compatibility tab. I just changed the oil in my 2018 OR MT's front and rear diffs with this exact oil.

OP, one other quick note - if you're looking to change the transfer case oil, I'd recommend the Ravenol J1C1003 SAE 75W MTF-3 fluid, which can be had over at Amazon for ~$20/liter.

I don't know specifically about the e-locker and the friction modifiers, but 75w90 is no big deal. I used M1 75w90 and ECGS recommends 75w140.

In my mind, the LS stuff might be a good thing for the locker dog gear, but that is just shooting from the hip.

You're fine. I just changed the oil in my front & rear diffs and t-case with the same stuff.

Thanks, I cant see why they say to use friction modifiers if we don't need them.

Just of future folks reading this, the 3rd Gen T case requires different lube than multi-viscosity GL5.

Also, RedLine is the highest grade Group V poly ester based synthetic fluid, very few others are, only perhaps Motul.

RL gear fluids are extremely popular. Check out the BITOG site, owners will put the RL gear oil in as a lifetime fill.

Because limits slip diffs, like Torsens, have meshing worm gears. Friction modifiers will prolong the life or might be a factory requirement.

Generally, the only worry with friction modifiers is in applications that use clutch packs, like wet clutch motorcycles, certain LSD types, and some AWD center diffs. I used oil with friction modifiers once on my bike with a wet clutch and had no issues.

If Redline says that it applies to your OR with the e-Locker then you are good to go. If you are still worried, there is a contact form on their website. I pinged them once about a suspected T case fluid for the Taco and they replied within a half hour. Good folks.

Very true, but some can be lead astray really easily. It also doesn't help that some are saying that dealers are dropping GL5 in there. We'll see what happens long term, but for now there is only $70/liter Toyota 75w LF and $17/liter Ravenol out there.

Our truck have an open diff and the brakes are actuated to simulate limited slip.
