Why

 

Russians use older tubes as no one but L3 manufactures them.

Other companies that have tubes are because they're government/military rejects.

That doesn't mean they're bad either, they just had more than the acceptable number of blemishes, noise, etc.

I run Gen3+ in my MOD3's and I used to have a PVS14 with a Gen3+ tube as well.

Had saved up for White Phosphor tubes for my MOD3's but tubes alone would cost me about $6k-7k. Though I can get credit for my Gen3+ tubes so that'll help a little bit.
