Walked away from 2020 OR DCSB in Cement, damn it was nice. Main packages were tech ($770) LED headlights ($485) and climate/audio ($2,415). MSRP was $41,950, got the dealer down to $40,250 before leaving. I really only want the tech packaged and LED highlights, didn't want to pay that much extra for dual zone climate and premium audio. I have a couple questions though, maybe someone here has some experience.

1st, When trading in your current truck, has anyone been able to get the dealer to swap your wheels/tires with the new truck you're buying? I'm trading in my '14 SR5 2wd/4cyl Tacoma but it has KO2s and the black TRD rims. I'd like to put them on my new truck but dealers haven't been open to swapping them. I get it might lower the trade in value of my truck ($19,000 from Carmax) but I figure it's a wash as the tires are halfway through their tread life. I actually don't mind the new stock OR wheels, but I'd rather not buy new off road tires right away.

2nd, I wasn't aware that your tax rate is based on your home address and not the address of the dealership. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I'm in California but my county's tax rate is 9.75%. The county of the dealership I went to today's rate is 7.25%, but they were still quoting me with my 9.75% rate.. is this normal?

That’s right. You’re taxed based on where the truck will be registered.

If you live in CA, I suggest bringing lube or WD40 because tax will rape you. Gotta pay to play around these hoods...

Walked away from an offer. Wanted to sleep on it and send a few emails out to try to get a better deal. I'm also leaning towards a Quicksand instead of Cement.

TRD OR 4x4, DCSB, Cement, Tech, LED
    - MSRP $39,322
    - Lowest offer: $37,000 before TTL (about a $100 below invoice)

Any advice on what I should aim for? $500 or $1000 below invoice? Any suggestions on dealers to contact in Socal? I'm not in a huge rush to purchase and may consider ordering since it seems tough to find a Quicksand for $39k MSRP at a dealer that will deal.

I got a 2019 TRD sport for about 35k and about a month after I went to Costco and saw a TRD 4x4 with leveling kit and upgraded wheels for about the same price

I really like the bed cover. Is that something Toyota sells, or aftermarket? Can you tell me a little more about it?

I do not think the Taco will hold it value like it used to next year. I do not think any of the midsized will..

There is going to be a price war coming. If the prices of new go down so do used.

We are going to have more midsized trucks than ever with the Ranger, and maybe a New Nissan next year.

But the main reason will be supply with Toyota increasing the amount of Tacos with the new plant opening in Dec. also they are supposed to be increasing production of trucks out of the Texas plant.

Toyota has had the market to themselves for a while but the segment is getting crowded and supply is increasing.

Chevy Colorado is getting older and they are going to have to be really aggressive with pricing to keep up and that is starting already.

Taco will do better than the rest in of midsized in resale value but it is going to go down with the rest of the market too.

He is right the midsized truck market is overpriced and I believe that is going to change with some aggressive pricing.

I think it has already starting.

So how are those Ranger sales going? Booming? Through the roof?

Also wondering why the 2020 prices have gone up instead of down...

As for 2020 prices it is early. Just because a car company raises the price on new models does not mean it will stay there, rebates will come.
Ranger sales are picking up see Q3 sales results in the link below.
Headline is a little misleading because for the quarter Tacoma sales were up even with the plunge in sales in Sept.
Not sure why the sudden drop in Sept sales for the Taco. Not sure if people were waiting for the 2020..
As for the Ranger it is over priced but with the new rebates the sales seems to be picking up.
