I picked up some of the Autotrac chains today for 265/75/16. Walmart wants $80 in store but they will price match their own online price of $65.

Tires are just dirty I swapped them out around 2,000 miles. Do you guys think this is a fair price?

I think its a pretty good price, I just don't think many people are going to be looking for stock tires.

I read through the WAC, didn't see any mention of fine or tickets unless I missed it

Open for interpretation honestly, not a direct fine for not carrying chains the way I read it

 

What it boils down to is the black and white signs. When they get put up that all vechicles must use/carry chains, it is subject to enforcement just like a speed limit sign. Only difference is that if caught, police are less likely to be flexible as it is a simple yes or no.

 

Not sure what you are reading that sounds like it is open for interpretation. It most certainly is a direct fine for not having chains when chains are required.

(4) Failure to obey a requirement indicated under this section is a traffic infraction under chapter 46.63 RCW subject to a penalty of five hundred dollars including all statutory assessments.

Maybe you are forgetting the WAC that goes along with it? People always forget the WAC.....

Subsection 1a says
(a) Exception for all wheel drive vehicles. When "chains required" signs are posted, all-wheel drive vehicles will be exempt from the chain requirement when all wheels are in gear and are equipped with approved traction devices as specified in WAC 204-24-040 provided that tire chains for at least one set of drive tires are carried in the vehicle.

The RCW says you get a $500 fine if you don't meet the requirements, and the WAC says you only meet the AWD/4WD exemption if you have a least one set of chains with you. That's not "open for interpretation" and certainly a "direct fine for not carrying chains."

 

Plain and simple idea, if you live in a place that gets winter weather, get chains. Toss them behind the seat and be done with it.
