This mornings commute I experienced the trans slipping at highway speeds. I immediately dropped down to the surface streets where the trans seemed fine. Once at work, a cursory inspection points to leaking coolant lines.

I am sure the OEM replacements are costly.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to do this replacement?
Could I replace with neoprene hose? (fuel line?)

    Thx, guido

Yes, you can replace with rubber hose. There is hose out there that is specific for trans cooler lines. I recall seeing a thread about this about 2 weeks ago.

I had a wild thought... Has anyone tee'd into the return line for the purpose of adding ATF?

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
why would you want to add fluid if its full? If for service reasons, do the job correctly. Drop pan etc.

What does dropping the pan have to do with filling with fluid?
My thought is connect the pump to a line under the hood and not have to be a contortionist under the vehicle?

You said it's leaking coolant, I don't understand what that has to do with the transmission slipping. Did you mean it's leaking ATF?

I literally just did this over the weekend. In my instance it was the line going from trans to cooler, the one closest to the ground, I believe it was the return line.

Remove front skid plate, removing transfer case skid will get you a little more room as well. Use a clamp to pinch the rubber line to prevent too much fluid loss. 17mm line wrench on the fitting, two 10mm bolts to open brackets, and a spring clamp holds the other end. Depending on how handy you are with wrenches it's a short easy job.

I don't have the receipt in- front of me, but I think the part was approximately $30.

An easy way to fill ATF is to remove the front grill, and pull the top hose from the tranny cooler (return line). Plenty of info on this here on TW and beats crawling around on the ground and trying to fill from there.
