So took the truck to the dealership got the oil changed. Got home and saw on the paperwork it says conventional oil, not synthetic. I paid for synthetic and that's what I prefer to run.

The sticker in the window says synthetic. Would the tech go off the previous window sticker or what the paperwork says? Should I have them do it again?

I have a long good history with them but this may have been a new guy. I know most hate the dealership and what not but this is where I'm at.

    Thoughts?

You can see if the dealer may give you another change complimentary but I doubt it. Honestly the second gens are extremely easy to do oil changes on, and I’d advise just to do it yourself from now on. I used to do mine in the driveway or garage all the time. Saves money and time too.

If your concern is switching between synthetic and conventional, it won’t really matter at all.

I round the parking lot of the local dealership and service department and see giant and I mean giant (500 gallon+) tanks labeled 5W30 and another labeled 0W20.

Yeah, your oil cane fro. Those tanks like every other model that calls for that specific oil.

This is why, as big of a pain in the ass it is on the 4Runner and 3rd gen Tacoma’s...I do my own oil changes in about 30 minutes.

They likely billed it up as a 5w30 because thats what the truck called for, and didnt correct it on the billing.

The answer isn't here, its at your dealer.

I’d personally run what is in it now.
Then at the next oil change, tell them your concern.
And ask them politely to make sure it is synthetic this time.
Not that you are accusing them of any wrong doing, but just so there is no confusion with the paper work or Oil Type you specify.

Like I said, I would run it and carry on with my days.
If you are keeping the oil level up and changing it regularly, you likely don’t have much to worry about.

Nothing wrong with running with conventional oil until your next oil change. Go voice your concern and maybe get a free car wash out of it.

Use their mistake as leverage to get a free oil change next time. Win win, Im sure they will go for that; that's if you dont want to change oil on your own.

I would be mad as hell, at myself, for wasting my time and money by not changing my own oil.

Just swing by and point out the discrepancy on the paperwork and the window sticker and ask them to confirm synthetic was put in by the tech, have him come to the service desk. I use my dealer all the time but I use the same service writer and technician for everything so I know them both very well. Only one tech touches my truck and no one else. All these guys that hate dealerships is because they haven’t taken the time to build a relationship with them. And since my dealer always runs a oil change special the only thing I’d save is time, but not really( have to go get the oil, get the filter, then dispose of both when done so a 30 minute oil change in the drive way really isn’t 30 minutes.
