My point is that very few people live in your neck of the woods by population and none of them are in this thread, we have no idea if any of those dealers are worth half a shit.

Yeah it's definitely not for everyone. We're just so used to all of us here being DIY that we kinda expect everyone to be able to. We're all different and we all bring different qualities to the table....:D (you know I had to say that:rofl:, we're all important and we're all needed)

@GQ7227 I'm surprised your regional sub forum doesn't have any good experiences with shops to pass along

Or somebody wanting to make an extra buck. 1st gen suspension is easy peasy compared to the 2nd gens.

2nd gens just need you to pop the ubj loose and drop the sway bar entirely to remove the coilovers. Rear suspension was easier than my 04, I could drop the axle farther without feeling like the brake lines were gonna snap.

these are NOT local shops, they are in Indiana where a lunchtable regular is located i thought

my regional sub forum is just me basically :) :(

i guess you be happy for the LBJs to go flying off on i80 somewhere in the cornfields

i have no good experiences any more with the 3 local Toyota dealers, i used to ... but not anymore from this past year

especially with partial handicaps and limited mobility that i do not feel all that safe with the more technical work without a 'spotter'
    it sucks!

i just want to be more informed about auto maintenance other than just the easy stuff

yes, i cannot even 'fit in' in here it seems and keep getting the utmost harsh feedback that i am trying to shrug off

auto mechanics can be extremely dangerous (even deadly) if you do not have proper equipment and training

Well realistically, the front suspension stuff is relatively simple and should be okay to trust at a Toyota dealer.
What might not be a bad idea is to see if the local dealership service departments have any Taco enthusiasts. Find an enthusiast at the shop to do the work and you get a better chance of the work being done right, you know they'll like your old classic and want to help you keep it on the road(even though it's plenty clean and you don't need to fret it being forced off the road anytime soon. There isnt an indie Toyota shop within a hundred miles of ya? What city do you live in(if that's not too personal to ask)? If it is, ignore the question in your reply, I'll get the point :D

You can become like a service writer (right @Empty_Lord Hahahah) and become a 'pro' at actually identifying whether something is a problem or not. The joke is service writers think they're the bees knees with diagnosing and stuff, at least they did when I was in a Yota dealer. And it's prolly more of the personality type and not the position of service writer now that I think about it.

yes, there is an indie Toyota shop ToyoTechs that opened up a couple years ago (just found out about it this last year) that got feed up with the dealer pushing non necessary services, brake fluid service, fuel cleaning service, probably others i forget.

i have been trying to feel them out for trustability but am getting mixed messages...

i just did not know if the $2k for front suspension is a real price or the 'local' 3rd gennr was feeding me a line of crap

did not know i can have a choice of mechanics to do the work at the shop
the one dealer i feel should never have left my engine compartment busted to pieces at the price i paid for the work

Yeah, just keep ignoring anything harsh, I'm sure I've said my share too, just gotta be careful on going overboard and spazzing out and then nobody wants to help. Know what I mean?
Plus cheer up, World Series starts tonight! First time ever for the Expos/Nationals franchise!!(lil salt in the wound never hurt anyone right?) :D:rofl:
