Check your grounds? make sure they didn't get pinched recently? I see you live in PA. Check the soldering connections you did during install. Extreme cold can cause them to crack and no amount of heat shrink will keep a cracked solder from doing weird shit. I've installed AVH-2330s in my STi and TSX and a AVH-2440 in my Taco and they've been flawless for several years.

    Ugh...

So many nuts, bolts, and wires!

    :goingcrazy:

It would seem that the space behind the dash of a 2nd Gen Taco was not designed for aftermarket head units with subwoofers, amps, and backup cameras...

    :annoyed:

As soon as the weather clears up I'll probably end up doing that though :)

However, why would all colors but orange and red be working properly?!?!

No clue on why the colors would be acting weird. I dont know how the inner workings of a headunit work. There isn't a lot of space in there for all the extra length of wires when doing an aftermarket head unit for sure. And I installed a front mount camera and the anytime backup camera set up and steering wheel button control module on mine as well. Metric @$$ ton of wires back there. I know I jammed and stuffed the wires ever where I could. But pulling the radio takes about 14 seconds. Just snatch the radio bezel off, 4x 10mm bolts (super quick with impact driver) and the radio comes out.

p.s. Look in your manual or find the pioneer manual on line and look up how to do a full blown radio reset on it. Might help also after you've ruled out some funky wiring.

I think this scares me more than anything...

When I was at Carlisle late August, there was an old man with a customized Chevy HHR parked not that far from me. He just randomly approached me and started chatting me up. Among other things, he told me he was a democrat who voted for Trump (the world needs more of those, for sure), but the point I am trying to make is that he was originally from New York and seemed to be quite lonely.

He harbored a lot of anger toward his doctors. Apparently, a while back when he still lived in New York, he’d suffered a stroke and his doctor got his driver’s license taken away for several years. The stroke was not the man’s fault, and I will admit that I do hate that doctors have the ability to get someone’s license yanked, but it wasn’t the doctor’s fault in this case.

He presently lived in Carlisle and had a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time I chatted with him, and he went on to tell me that his vision was the bare minimum for him to be legally driving. He told me that his eye doctor had told
him he’d probably have to yank his license the next time he went in for a checkup. This guy told me his plan was to tell the doctor he’d switched physicians and stop going...

The old man told me he had no family in the area, I’m pretty sure he had no smartphone (so Uber was out of the question), and Carlisle doesn’t have much in the way of public transportation. That HHR was his only means of transportation, and losing his license meant losing his independence. I understand his frustration, but it makes me wonder how many older people with various health issues are avoiding trips to the doctor to keep their licenses (probably thousands).

It’s one thing if he plows into the back of my truck and insurance deals with it, but what if he runs over a person due to his failing eyesight?!?!

We went through this shit with my Grandma...

She lived at a retirement community in Northern Virginia for the last 16 years or so of her life. She moved there in 1999 and was a safe driver until 2011 or 2012; I’m not saying she was an unsafe driver, but she started showing signs of age in 2011, around the age of 84-85.

The fact that the handling characteristics of her 2000 Buick LeSabre made my Tacoma seem like a BMW 3-series by comparison did not help!

My Grandma was perfectly fine to drive with regards to mental health, but she had trouble turning her head to check her blind spots and such. In 2011 or 2012, she failed the vision test when she went to renew her driver’s license. My mom and her three sisters were relieved! Unfortunately, Virginia has a law allowing an eye doctor to overrule the DMV with a signature, and my Grandma had an eye doctor who was willing to play ball. She took full advantage of this loophole to get her license renewed and, needless to say, my mom and her sisters were all furious!

My Grandma’s health started to fail in other ways, and she stopped driving a short time later and sol the Buick, though she had a valid Virginia driver’s license until the day she died (she last drove sometime in 2012 and died in January 2015).

In my opinion, people end up getting DUIs not because they exhibit signs of driving drunk (or high), but because they did something stupid that drew unwanted attention from the pice and ended up being drunk.

This past June when I was at a car show in York, I met this guy with a 1992 Chevy S10 who told me he’d gotten a DUI the previous year. He did a bit of a burnout as he was leaving a bar and got pulled over! This S10 had the venerable 4.3L V6, a 700R4 tranny, and a posi rear; This is a tire-smoking combination under the right conditions! This was not the guy’s first DUI, but somehow he managed to get away with just a brief license suspension and didn’t have to put a breathalyzer interlock in the truck like your wife did.

A guy I know was driving a rich friend’s late model Jeep Wrangler and it had an expired inspection sticker. A cop popped him as he was leaving Wawa on a snack run and he ended up being over the limit; The cop even told him as he was being cuffed that he would not have been pulled over had the inspection been up to date.

One unwritten rule of vehicle ownership in the suburbs: Always make sure all paperwork (inspection, registration, etc) is up to date, and perform regular “preventative maintenance walkarounds” to ensure that all lights are functional. An otherwise law-abiding citizen driving a vehicle with an expired inspection or a burnt out headlight, especially after 10pm, is a bored suburban cop’s wet dream!

Keeping a vehicle in good shape is also key to avoiding unwanted police encounters. My uncle actually told me that one of the reasons I probably avoid getting pulled over at night is because I’m driving a pickup truck, and pickup trucks are associated with hardworking blue collar guys who work a lot overtime...

A bunch of kids in their early twenties packed into a shitbox 20-year old Saturn late night? Not so much (true story)!

This happened back in 2012. A friend of mine, 20 at the time, was driving home from a friend’s graduation party in the ‘92 Saturn she’d bought for $500. She had a few friends in the car and it was late. A cop pulled her over purely for being a 20-year old driving a shitty 20-year old car, with a few passengers of roughly the same age, late at night.

She only blew a .02, but because she was almost a month away from turning 21, those PennDOT bureaucrats suspended her license for six months and she ended up paying about ten grand when all was said and done. This is a good, hardworking individual who has NEVER been in trouble with the law except for that one little slip-up.

Now, let’s put me in her place; I’ve driven home after a few beers before, but I didn’t get my license until I was 22 so I never would have gotten a DUI for underage drinking...

If I got pulled over for something not related to “suspicion of DUI” and then blown a .02 on a breathalyzer, the cop would have told me to have a good evening and sent me on my way!

For crying out loud, a friend of mine who was in his late 50s at the time blew a .06 at a DUI checkpoint while driving home one night and they cop did just that!

In Europe and most of Asia, the legal drinking age is 18! As a toddler, I was curious to see what beer tasted like, so my father put some Sam Adams in a sippy cup for me and I tried it. I was no older than 3, and I hated it. My parents have been letting me have a glass of champagne at New Years every year since I was 11 or 12! I’d say I turned out just fine!

By the way, I think DUI checkpoints are a violation of the 4th amendment, but as someone who’s been in a car accident caused by a recidivist drunk driver, I think something really needs to be done about drunk driving...

Ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft have done a great job of reducing both alcohol-related car accidents/fatalities and DUI arrests, but many people are still stupid enough to think it’s a good idea to drive themselves home after the umpteenth drink.

Sometimes I drink too much (and when I do, I’m responsible about it and don’t drive). I definitely eat too much!

I’ve been known to enjoy a cigar or two with friends from time to time, and I have even smoked weed once in my life. I tried a vape once, when offered a hit by a neighbor, and it didn’t do anything for me.

I have never smoked a cigarette and never will. I never have and never will touch drugs like coke, heroin, or meth...

When you work at a bar, coworkers who don’t smoke are the exception rather than the rule...

Coworkers regularly rode in my truck, and I instituted a strict no smoking in the Tacoma rule. On two separate occasions, I have broken my own rule and smoked cigars in my truck; However, smoking stogies twice in the truck versus years of smoking cigarettes are two totally different things. My truck is fully detailed twice a year and does not smell at all. I have allowed friends and coworkers to vape in my truck, because vapes don’t leave a lingering odor and generally smell pleasant. Just because they don’t smell bad and I allow their use in my truck doesn’t mean I like them!

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but here it is again...

As a general rule of thumb, People
Aspergers and other forms of autism and autism spectrum disorders generally do not do drugs. I am close friends with four other Aspies born between October 1986 and September 1989, so as of this posting three of them are 30 and one is 33. Not one of them has even smoked marijuana.

I have one Aspie friend who I met online who was formally diagnosed at 47 and is now 52 years old. She admitted to self-medicating by doing coke (powder only; she said that crack was yucky) and even said she tried crystal meth on one occasion, largely due to the fact that she knew something was up but couldn’t figure it out. She still smokes weed recreationally, but she lives in a state where weed is legal for recreational use.

I met another Aspie woman online who was a roughly my age and has actually done prison time for drug and theft charges. Her license was revoked due to multiple DUIs. Keep in mind that I never met her in person or even talked to her on the phone, but why would anyone lie about being a convicted felon?

I’m sure there are plenty of autistic individuals who are full blown junkies, but I’ve never met one. There is one girl I know personally who is on the spectrum, who smokes weed regularly and has admitted to doing coke, but I would not classify her as an addict.

I have smoked weed once in my life but I’ve never done coke, heroin, meth, or any other hard drugs.

I think that smoking a pack a day is less detrimental to one’s health than vaping!

Alcohol is a drug, but it has also been legal since 1933, and I consume it responsibly...

I will admit that I am probably the biggest drinker in my group of Aspie friends. My one friend Doug will have a Bud Light or two when we get together, but he generally does not drink. He is an obnoxious “mother hen” when it comes to drinking large amounts of alcohol.

I regularly get into arguments with my parents (especially my mom) about what constitutes drinking too much.

My mom gets annoyed at me for driving home after drinking one beer! She is also worried about what could happen when alcohol mixes with the various medications I take. Truth is, at my size and weight, I can handle a lot! I am have 3 or 4 beers over the course of a few hours and been perfectly safe to drive home. When I know I’m going to be getting hammered, the truck stays home and I use Uber.

I have found that my age is catching up with and I can no longer consume mass quantities on weekends like I used to. I’ve had a few hangovers, including particularly bad one in December 2015 that lasted a whole day, but I can proudly say that I’ve never puked from drinking too much. I can hold my liquor very well. As recently as a couple years ago, I could knock back up to nine beers and a few shots in a night and be fine. Now I’ve found that I feel not so good after a less than half a dozen beers. I still don’t know what my limit is because I’ve never blacked out or done anything stupid as a result of drinking.

If I told you I didn’t have a problem with authority, I would be lying. However, it is my opinion that having a problem with authority and blatantly disregarding the laws and social norms that keep things civilized are two totally different things.

I follow the rules (even the ones I immensely dislike). My psychologist says that I follow the spirit of the law, and that there is nothing wrong with that.

I have never been arrested and have no criminal record.

I have been suspended from school twice, both times for “assaulting” students who were repeatedly picking on me.

One of my biggest problems is when people (almost always white guys born prior to 1965) give me an attitude over petty bullshit.

Anyone who’s seen Rainman knows that people with autism are OCD about adhering to a routine and following rules. For me, this is true for the most part...

On the flip side, people on the spectrum tend to be very set in their ways and will react rather harshly when someone or something interrupts their routine. People have told me on numerous occasions that I am much more flexible than the typical person on the spectrum.

My one friend, who is three months older than me, is definitely a more extreme example of an Aspie who is set in their ways...

One example would be when Secret Life of the American Teenager was still in the air. He absolutely loved it, and when he introduced me to it, I took a liking to it as well and started watching it with him regularly.

I get annoyed when people interrupt me when I’m trying to watch TV, but my friend took it to the next level...

If I talked at all during Secret Life, he would act though I interrupted some important religious ritual or bothered him while he was trying to study for an exam, and he would not merely get annoyed. He would get downright belligerent!

In one episode of Secret Life, the one girl ended up having a miscarriage or something and her baby was stillborn. Any normal person, even the most rabid fan, would find this sad. Some people might cry, which is normal.

My friend leapt up from his spot on the couch like he was ready to fight, with this homicidal look on his face, and angrily threw whatever he was holding on the floor (it was either a magazine or an overstuffed file folder, I forget). When I told him to calm down, he went ballistic...

Dude, it’s just a TV show!
