my truck seems sluggish :(

okay i have been driving aroud and my truck has been seeming sluggish. like it doesnt have the power that it used to.....



okay i just went to go eat at in n out and my check engine light just went on
sweet!

does anyone have a clue on whats wrong with my baby? haha

 

have u changed out ur timing belt? O2 sensors?

 

no not since like last year haha

Timing belt is not going to cause your truck to be sluggish. It's sluggish cause your check engine light is on, there's a fault & your ECU is in limp mode. Get your truck scanned, find out what code it is. Have it reset to see if it trips the check engine light again. If it does, fix whatever is causing that code.

 

Yea if it's only been year it wouldn't be a problem. Jus get it checked out. Ur check engine light won't come on for no reason. Plus some toyotas have minor transmission issues too.

 

OK, I had my timing belt on a civic slip 3 teeth. Engine started to run sluggish and finally a day later the light came on. Had codes for all sort of things. clear the light and then a day later it came back on. This time it was a code for something else......
ended up removing the head and found the belt had slipped.

 

With valve timing thrown off like that, yes. Your lucky only a few teeth depending on what motor you have. I used to be a Honda mechanic. What caused your timing belt to slip like that? Those instances just don't commonly happen unless it was recently touched or the belt was long overdue for replacement.

OP stated he got his belt done only a year ago so the chances of his belt skipping some teeth is not very likley unless it wasn't put on correctly or a bad tensioner was not replaced at the time.

But I guess anything could happen. Best thing to do is to find out what code it is.

also i think i might have put to much oil in my mortor maybe thats the problem too? ahh oh well ill see what the deal is tomorrow. hopefully its not super expensive

I had replaced the belt. Drove it for a month or so. Don't know how many miles had gone by but I think it was the tensioner that failed. aftermarket parts. I was getting codes for all sorts of things,,, EGR,,,misfaire in only one bank at a time,,, misfire on all banks,,,different sensor failures,,,it's amazing all the things that show up when your timing is off! LOL

 

On an 01 Taco I owned I had a sluggish problem. I would press the gas and the truck didn't want to go. Thought it could be the clutch, but that wasn't it. Turned out to be my cat was clogged up. Fixed that and the truck ran great. Don't know if your having the same problem but you could check the cats and see. Good Luck!

 

OP, did you change both O2 sensors at the same time?

 

kinda sounds like my problem, but i hear a flowing rattle in the exhaust, its gotta be the cats or muffler right?

 

I would think it would be the cat. Definitely worth checking it to find out.

 

How would one check this out aside from completely removing? Is or isn't welded in?

 

Well to be honest the muffler guy I took it to just tapped on it and could tell. Maybe it was a lucky guess for him but he was right about it in the end. If I remember correctly on the 01 there was a flange just after the cat and the exhaust could be removed so that you could look at the inside of the cat.

 

Thts the sound my timing belt was making before I got it replaced.the water pump was messed up and I kept hearing tht rattle noise bc the belt was messed up on it

 

I'm putting my bets on either clogged cats...dirty injectors...or fuel filter...

 

Since everyone is just pulling diagnosis out of thin air, I'm going to go for the banana in the tailpipe. Either that, or the modial interaction of magnetoreluctance and capacitive directance isn't generating power for his turbo encabulator.
