    Hey guys,

New Tacoma owner. I'm interested in swapping out my 2020 TRD Off RD grille with a TRD Pro grille, my only issue is I don't know if I can mount my camera using the original bracket on an aftermarket grille. I asked my local dealership about purchasing an OEM grille but apparently the manager refuses to sell them because someone made a big fuss over the TSS errors previously.

I wonder if looking elsewhere for a OEM 2020 TRD Pro Grille (I'm also assuming it uses the same front camera) is my safest bet or if I'm just over complicating the mounting of this camera.

I can't answer your question directly. But I do recall some information that may be of interest from reading different threads.

The Pro grill relocates the TSS to a different position. And the mount for the TSS isn't exactly similar to yours. Other people in your situation have had to resort to mounting the camera off-center. But they were successful with the install. Maybe one will chime in with more exact details.

I would really like to have it like this, I’m assuming the OEM 2020 TRD pro grille has the opening for it already. Guess I better call around

You really should not change the grill, The mounting position, thickness, angles are for your vehicle. If you even take the front radar sensor off your own grill and put it back on the same grill it needs to be re calibrated. You could put it on an aftermarket or different grill and have no issues or you may. There are too many variables but if you do have an issue and not the original grill on the truck any problem will not be covered under warranty.

I’d been wondering the same thing - having bought the same truck, @alexthesparky, but have been met with the same things that @stefanlg55 has said.

Given the warranty-voiding possibilities, I’m hesitant.

I have a TRD Pro grille on mine now, I'd love to trade/buy yours if you do end up swapping! Haha

Not sure if you've seen this, but there are aftermarket grills that say they fit the TSS:

    https://caliraisedled.com/products/2016-2020-toyota-tacoma-faux-trd-pro-grille

Haven't heard too much about calibration with TSS, but I'm sure it's going to affect it as it looks like the mounting area on this one is offset below where yours would be.

*Edit- Just out of curiosity, I Googled some more and found a seller on Amazon that says the grill is OEM. The reviews say that it works with the 2018+ TSS features, as long as you add the Garnish Sensor Cover:

    https://www.amazon.com/TOYOTA-PT228-35170-Toyota-TRD-Grille/dp/B01NGTBOKM

Not sure how trustworthy the seller is, or if this really is an OEM part, but it has high reviews. Hope this helps!

Wondering though how the camera integrates with the grille and what kind of harness extensions may or may not be required.

Okay - got an email reply from my dealer’s parts dept regarding an OEM 2020 TRD PRO grille (compatible with both TSS and camera,) and here it is. Seems unlikely - and maybe easily resolved if you’re tech-savvy, but here’s the response:

Well thanks for the digging on the subject. I reckon it’s not the end of the world. The 2020 grille is actually pretty good looking imho.

Outta my budget, unfortunately. Yours looks great, though - esp w/ your additions.

Thanks! I've sold $4k in parts off of it and still have another $1k in parts to peddle. Bringing down my investment to $43k. Before going back in and blowing it all on different parts. lol
