I just installed the Bakflip F1 about a month ago and love it. It has composite panels so it won't scratch/dent like the aluminium ones and has the new tailgate seal that allows you to close the tailgate with the cover closed. Folds up against back window so you still have full use of your bed. Protip: if you go aftermarket check out the autoanything dude who is a member on here. I went through him to get a quote on the Bakflip and he got about $180 knocked off the price.

Here she is. Definitely need to blackout those wheels!

    @44-16 Taco Thanks for that!

Was about the pull the trigger on the F1 and realized it's high gloss. Seems like that might look off with all of the matter of the OR.

Looks good. I guess "high gloss" just scared me a bit. LOL

It's a little shiny but it matches pretty well. The aluminum ones are probably less shiny but I was scared or denting or bad scratching.

That's my concern too. The MX4 sounds great but the Bak rep didn't recommend it for me.

F1 is the best of both worlds. Composite construction and the better tailgate seal so you don't have to trust other peoples to lift the cover before closing the tailgate.

X2...my last Tacoma had one and it was the first purchase I made when I got my new one. For the price you can't beat it (my last one still looked great after 5 years) and most importantly when rolled up it completely clears the bed.

I suppose someone could come and cut the vinyl but really they could also pop the lock out of he tailgate handle pretty quick too. Keeping your stuff out of sight is the most important thing and any cover will do that.

Big $$$. I love the look and design, but dang, that asking price.

    Stock so far, lol!
I've had the factory one on my 2016 and on the 2019 as well. I've had no issues and think it looks great. It will just depend on what you like. I was able to get the dealer to throw mine in when purchasing.

I purchased a Bakflip F1 a couple weeks ago and love it, except it seems to leak more than I think it should. I drilled holes and connected the drain tubes, so here are my questions. And yes, I understand it won't be as dry as a "popcorn fart" under that cover after a rain, but I'm a little anal when it comes to leakage...ha!

    1. Does your Bakflip MX4 or F1 cover leak much when you get a good rain?
    2. Have you had any success with minimizing leaking? What worked?
    3. Would laying a small thin bead of caulk on the bed caps, letting it set up for a couple of days, then reinstalling the rails help, since the bedcaps on the side are uneven due to the texture?

    Thanks for your advise!

    Many aftermarket have better warranties.

The OEM ones i have seen are faded and look shot out (maybe it was abuse/sun damage).

The bed rail cut is a non starter for me as replacement bed rail caps cost $250 a set.

I live on the wet coast... err I mean west coast of BC. It rains here a lot. My MX4 cover does leak a bit from the edges. Nothing that I am concerned about though. Nothing on the mat gets wet. Any water flows down the side, under the bed mat and out the drain holes. Some caulking should help I am sure but I have had the cover 2 years and am happy with it.

What keeps the front end in place when in the down position?

In my experience, getting it to squeeze the front seals is the key. My Extang could be adjusted to close very easily and thus a loose snap, or tightened up which meant you had to slam it, or really push down, but in that position it did a fine job of preventing leaks.
