How many gallons can you get into your truck with low fuel light?

I know the tank is about 21 gal, but how many gal can you pump until full right after the fuel light comes on?

When my light comes on it shows 22 miles to empty. I drove another 8 miles and got to the station I wanted to use. I was only able to put just over 18 gallons in. If I were a risk taker, I might deduce I had more like 60 miles to go instead of 22 when the low fuel indicator came on.

    A few.
Usually around 18 gallons or so. It usually comes on when your distance to empty gauge is between 20-25 miles left.

Ive gone 10-15 miles past the distance to empty hitting zero a couple times without a problem. Still had 1 1/2 gallons left.

The most I’ve put in is 18.4 gallons. And when the light came on I still drove freeway miles for a long ways. I was a little nervous at the time. I still can’t figure out if it’s a 21 gallon tank for sure or what the deal Is. I’ve squeezed 330 miles out of my tank before.

Too far between gas stations in Nevada to be trying that.

After light went on I drove 20+ highway until miles left to empty was zero, then drove about 5 more miles. Put in 19.1 gallons.

FWIW and I have only had my ride for 6 days.... (but have 700 miles on it already) and like others when it says 20 or so miles until empty I can put 18 gallons in it +- .2 g i'd say.....

My buddy and I were out in the boonies in his ‘16, scouting for deer and not paying attention to the gas situation. Didn’t realize how far we’d pushed it till we were on the way back to the blacktop. Those of you who’ve been to this state know there can be a very long ways between service stations here. He just shrugged it off and said “We’ll be fine. This truck will go a long way with that light on.”

This was last year before I had bought mine so I wasn’t so sure, but he really didn’t seem too concerned and I’ll be damned if we didn’t make it back with no problem. Don’t know how far we actually went but it was pretty far. I think he put over 19 gallons in it when we got to the gas station.

The gas light is set to come on with 4 gallons left in the tank.

I usually see about the same 330-350 before the light comes on as long as those miles are on the highway. At fillup it’s about 19gal.

18.1 to 18.4 gallons for me. I use a scangauge, when properly calibrated I always will be in that range when the light comes on (this time of the year it is a little off though, because switch over to winter fuel). Think I got 18.6 last time, so I'll chase calibration for a few tanks, and sure enough it will be the same range again.

I ran mine pretty low last week. Got 402 miles out of a tank (2WD SR5 DCSB) and put in 19.057 gallons. Avg 21.1 MPG according to Fuelly. Kind of annoying how early the light comes on.

This makes me think of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and the Saab dealer are on a test drive and decide to go all "Thelma and Louise" and just keep going after the fuel light comes on. Nobody has had the courage to truly test the limits like this? :blahblah:

I did this once when I had a full gas can in the bed - drove through the "low fuel" light all the way down to "1 mile to empty" as I pulled into the gas station, then I put slightly over 19 gallons back in to fill up.
Even with the spare fuel in the bed, it was still nerve-wracking, I won't lie. haha
