    Hello everyone,

New to the forum, and new to being a Tacoma owner.
I bought a 2017 TRD Off-Road, and am looking to put some customization effort into it.

Eventually I'll be doing a lift-kit, wheel & tire upgrades, and a lot more fun. But currently, and with the winter season approaching, I was thinking about getting a Max Modular Bed Rack System.

I'm looking for thoughts / any information to how one should go about mounting ski / snowboards to the Max Modular Bed Rack. Typical ski/snowboard carriers attach to rods that have to be of a thickness that allows the straps (from what I can tell) to tighten to the horizontal cross-bars. For example this snowboard carrier by Thule

Would this be a safe or even possible setup? Is there something that the Thule carrier needs to securely attach that I'm not aware of? Or is there a better option out there? Are there single snowboard clips that I could mount to the sides (where you might put extra fuel tanks) of the bed rack system?

I think you could mount the snowboard mount to the vertical pieces on the KBV rack, where you mentioned others have mounted Rotopax gas cans. What else are you planning on putting on the bed rack? If no roof top tent is in the future, you might be better served by getting a roof rack and mounting the snowboards up there.

I have the hi-rise bars from KB Voodoo, and bought a used thule ski rack like you linked off of craigslist. I removed the feet from the rack (you might have to break through a plastic piece to get to the bolt holding the feet on), and purchased hardware to attach it to the KB voodoo rack through the holes in the crossbars. (note, I haven't actually done this yet, only bought the hardware and figured out how to put it through the ski rack).

One of the pictures on KB's site for the hi rise bars shows what I'm goign to do:
    https://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/toyot...-use-with-tonneau-covers-fits-years-2005-2016

I am planning on doing it this weekend, if I remember, I'll snap some pictures.

Edit to add: the thule rack I got from craigslist was something like $35. Used ones are out there really cheap.

Are you saying if I have the Max Modular Bed Rack installed. Buy the hi-rise bars and they will attach to the bed-rack itself? Think of where you mount a tent to the top of the rack. You can mount the hi-rise bars to that and then mount Thule Ski holders to the bars?

I'm looking for a way to have the Max Modular Bed Rack installed. Then somewhere on the rack system mount something that can hold ski's snowboards. Even if that means I can only mount 1 snowboard per side, or I have to remove the tent on top to mount a larger snowboard holders (e.g. Thule).

Are there any rubber alligator type clips that could be bolted to the rack system that can hold boards?

Basically asking, what adapter would I need or would I run into any problems to mounting a snowboard / ski carrier(s) in such a way that I could do this and easily remove the carriers when I want to go camping?

As long as the snowboard carrier can carry the board at an angle, I think you'd be fine mounting the rack like you have in the picture on the side (the transparent oval). I don't think you'd want to put the racks on the top part where the tent goes. You'll get tired of switching the mounts out for the tent real quick. For the sides I know Chad sells mounts for traction boards. I bet you could make those work to hold the Thule mounts.

You could also get a roof rack too and mount your snowboards up there.

Where did you purchase the hardware to attach thule rack to the hi rise bars? I'm looking to do similar setup.

Lowes I think... just bought some hex head bolts, matching nuts and washers to go through the hi rise bar openings. nothing spectacular. I did however have to break up the plastic cover inside the racks to access the bolts to remove the thule feet. since I got these ski racks for cheap on craigslist... breaking shit on it wasn't a big deal.

I plan on actually taking them off this week, if I can remember, I'll post some close up pictures of the setup.

you could get an extra side or top piece to mount the snowboard rack to.

maybe try to find an older style somewhere that doesn't have a strap that goes around a bar? the older style has 2 screws that get tightened from the bottom from another clamp style thing. these feet rotate when not tight so instead of the horizontal, you just swap them vertically.

these old style yakimas are what im talking about
