to be clear, the engine/tranny were my ONLY non issues :D thankfully. I was one of the lucky first to get the 2016
and had every single issue (14 of them) you've read about on here with the finale being the 3rd brake light flooding the
    interior.

I'm on a lease that ends in 2022 and that could be a change-over year for the Taco, so curious to see what happens. Also intrigued by a 30 MPG Tundra if that comes to pass for 2021. Would seriously consider making the switch.

Because a new truck = placebo effect (because they just dropped a bunch of $$$ hoping said material item will fulfill hopes and dreams of perceived notions of grandeur)

Oh, I have no doubt. But OVTUNE wants to sell tunes, too. Time will tell if Toyota is full of shit. Considering they haven't really addressed all of the automatic issues from 2015 (2016 launch) to present, their history isn't very good.

History has a way of shedding light on this sort of stuff. We need more 2020 owners. By Christmas there should be a whole bunch of new whiny butts here. :)

I have no problem showing you guys side by side line of hex and compare it yourself. I am not seeing any changes in the table data on the 2020s.
Doesn't mean the code section wasn't optimized, but so far the tune is no different than 2019

For Toyota the "Take you Places" = take you to the cleaner while they go to the bank. Will say I have had only a few issues with my '16 and the dealer took care of all of them (probably because I know the service manager) except the flash to 04B04. Even with that I don't trust them and prefer to do any and all work I can do in my garage rather than take it to them. JMO.

There have been a couple of 2020 owners that were owners of previous 3rd gen trucks that indicate Toyota did do something to improve the automatic gear hunting. I’m particularly interested in the 4th - 6th gear behavior at freeway speeds above 65, with emphasis on cruise control behavior.

But only a couple of owners so it’s way to early to get excited.

As has been pointed out by a couple of other tacoma world regulars, there are a lot of variables that can have a dramatic impact to how the truck drives. I’m really only interested in how the factory truck is operating in stock condition.

I know your rep is solid Mat.

If Toyota in fact didn’t do shit, I won’t be surprised and it will become all too obvious with more 2020 owners. Once they put 10k or more miles on their truck, the trends will start to emerge.

As a 2018 owner with the 04A60 ecu, I finally bit the bullet and updated the ecu so I could try out the 2.0 tune. The hardest part of the process was finding the cuw file and techstream. Wish I had done this sooner. Once I've gotten some miles on the tune, I'll make sure to hit zendesk up with some feedback, even if it is late in the game.

It was probably the folks who didn’t get the TSB in the first place and since all the new trucks come with the TSB applied then it “seems” to have been fixed.

Any chance Toyota changed some of the gearing in the transmission on the 2020s to improve the drivability some folks are claiming with the 2020s?

I made that 2020 post and I supplied Mat with the 2020 ECU data

    Full disclosure:
I ran the stock 2018 cal, tsb 2018 cal, 1.04, 1.05, 1.05.1 and all 2.0 versions up to build 19800 for 04A61. OVtune was a godsend for my 2018 Tacoma and made a drastic difference.

I went directly from the 2.0 19800 build into a stock 2020 truck the next day. Its shifting at hwy speeds surprised me with how well it holds the appropriate gear and avoids hunting.
Granted, I've never driven a 2019 so I cannot comment as to whether or not there is a 2019/2020 difference. Maybe there was a change and maybe not. I do know this new truck behaves MUCH better than my 2018 ever did with its factory calibration.

    2.5" lift, 4.88 gears
That would be great, gear spacing between 3-4, 4-5 is terrible. Every time my truck shifts into 4th it feels like the engine has died.

It will be interesting if it 'learns' and gets worse with some miles
