I just recently started hearing a thud or banging noise in the rear of my truck when I go over bumps mostly at slow speed. I also hear this noise when I rock the truck left and right going down the road. I thought it was because I had my Hi Lift in the bed not strapped down. Took it out, no difference. I crawled under the truck trying to figure out what it was but haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. Finally, I think I found the problem. I have no idea what is causing this though. My leaf springs (Medium Duty Dakars) are rubbing against the shackles. It's actually starting to wear the shackle out now.

The LEFT leaf spring is hitting the OUTSIDE of the shackle.
The RIGHT leaf spring is hitting the INSIDE of the shackle.

The second problem I noticed while I was under the truck is my Dakars look like they have 900 pounds on them. I have a Tepui RTT and my spare tire in my bed. That's it. So roughly 200-215lbs daily. Medium Dakars are rated for 350lbs daily. I have had this set on the truck for roughly 21 months.

I have no idea what the heck is going on here but I need some help. I don't this these two problems are related. I just decided to keep it all in one thread.

    Any ideas?!

    My setup:
    285/75/16s
    OME suspension all around
    Medium Duty Dakar Leaf Springs

    Thank you for your help!

holy shit, them leafs are sagged out...

Yeah, I have only ever ran deaver springs or national springs, coming for desert/prerunner background. So I don't know much about these popular aftermarket suppliers...I will say that based off how they look they all seem like cheap shit. Most quality springs regardless of spring rate will have multiple thinner leafs as opposed to 3-4 thicker leafs. Also, most quality springs will come from places that have forms and ovens in house to arch the leafs. A good spring pack should be 700 bucks or more. All these springs look like they came from the same factory in GUQKXjang china LOL.
When it comes to anything aftermarket/performance related just copy what the desert racing people do and you can't go wrong

Yeah I am absolutely shocked they look like that.. I've never had a problem with OME before but I'm really disappointed in seeing them like this. I rarely ever haul weight and like I said, my Tepui is only 180lbs. It's not like I am hauling concrete daily.

Do DMZ spring under conversion with 62" deaver race pack for all that weight in the bed. For shocks just have them come up into a bed cage. The ride will be 10/10 .

Kinda confused by this. I'll be honest it rides fine. I never thought there was anything wrong. It just sags obviously which is strange because it's only ~200lbs.

There have been others on the forum with the same issue. Either warranted or they bought different ones.

For the clunking or the sagging of the springs?

With a pack that’s bent that badly, it’s no wonder the ends are out of alignment. You need new springs, that’s all. Those aren’t flat or worn out, they’re bent. you shouldn’t see a W shape on a spring, it should be arched or flat.

Makes sense. They are worn out so bad the ends are bending. Ugh, can't believe one RTT did this. That sucks. Guess i have to get the Heavy Duty Leafs.

I am going to give them a call tomorrow to see if they will help out at all. Pretty ridiculous to have to replace leaf springs every two years Lol.

That’s not from the weight of a RTT, that’s from a badly made spring pack, (or cheap steel). Unless the manufacturer believes you overloaded the weight capacity of the spring, there should be no questions in warranty on those no matter how old.
So don’t think you need HD or increase load capacity. (That will just give you a shit ride). The same capacity in a correctly made spring would not do that.
