    So what's the load above?

Helping a buddy remodel a house in NY I got my first look at a load bearing window. I shit you not. There was a large 6'0" x 4'0" window that was on the first floor. It was centered under the roof peak on a gable end. The original home was built in the late 1800's and had about 5 additions as far as I could tell. When you looked at the glass it had this wavy look like old windows sometimes do.

Anyway, he wanted to remodel his living room so I stripped it down to the studs. When I got to that window it had a single top plate over it with 24 OC framing. There was no header in sight. On the next floor there was a 6x6 that went up to carry the whole roof load. When the second floor addition went on nobody caught it. I'm still impressed that it held for that long. lol

Sounds a lot like my house lol.

As far as load above this treasure, best I can tell it's not too terrible. There's a hallway wall directly above, but there's a massive fireplace right next to this so there's gotta be some meat in there.

It's a lot of structural steel, big LVLs, PSL posts and LSL studs. There is a lot going on to say the least.

Correct, however, we have 1 guest bedroom that remains mostly unused (only us 2 and the dog) except when we have people in town visiting. So the 4 on the modem are sufficient and once we put a smart TV in the guest room we will max out the modem. Master will need one slot, office will need another. 4th bedroom isn’t being used for anything but will address the issue if we end up needing it (have a feeling mom in law will end up with us in the near future even my wife thinks she won’t but MIA is getting too expensive for her).

Replacing those LVL's isn't going to be fun , especially if they used subfloor adhesive

That's pretty much the theme here. At least 50% of what we've done has been taken back down and redone at least once. Par for the course when the design changes after something is already installed.

A good example of how messed up the timeline on this job is, they're still doing rough electric and are grading topsoil and planting all the landscaping.

Nearing the end of my current project

Took out the construction driveway , regrading and building some machine stacked sandstone landscaping walls . Fence will go on upper side of top wall and screen the road

i'll post some pics of the house after we get the paper up and finish up a few more of the details

Thanks for the afternoon laugh. I'd love to blow out one of those rafter blocks and see why the 2x6 is higher then that beam and has no seat cut in it. That shouldn't be possible. lol
