Fuuuuck my fucking life; open door, door handle "clicks" as if some plastic thing broke and refuses to open door on the Taco :frusty:

Using passenger side to get the door.

Just opened my door like normal, cause I read about them breaking.

Fuck this sucks; replacement the only way to go or is there something to fix?

Inside door handle works so it must be the door latch/handle itself.

Haha welcome to my curse about 2 years ago...was breaking handles every few weeks. Get yourself a Dorman one off Amazon, trust me. I'm usually OEM on most things but the Dorman handles are the only ones that have lasted for me. I spent a few hundred on OEM replacements that kept failing before that.

The lip that engages the rod mechanism is bigger on the back of the Dorman handles than the OEM ones. That was what kept happening to me, OEM ones kept slipping off that piece and the handle would stop working.

Sounds like you broke the plastic on yours though on the outside. The Dorman ones seem to be built well as far as that goes too. And they're like $20 as opposed to $100 for OEM

Also @Kwikvette get a small swivel head socket wrench for the 10mm that you need to uninstall/install the handles, makes life way easier

I think I might have an issue with the rods especially on the driver side where it broke more frequently, but in any case I think it's good peace of mind to know the Dorman handle is better designed on the back just in case that becomes an issue for anyone else.

There's a little plastic clip that holds the rod to the handle. That's what broke in mine. I bought a cheap Amazon door handle, popped the clip off, and put it back into my OEM handle to replace the one that broke

Yeah I know the clip you're referring to, that little fucker is a pain in the ass esp if it breaks.

    Big wet heavy snow.

I'm on the fence, mostly because it wrecks my wrenching since it's too fawking cold . Other than that it's not too bad now that I know what winter gear is. Parents never taught me beyond jeans and a jacket how to dress warm
