Can someone tell me if the rear differential out of 2012 4wd Tacoma will fit in 2006 Tacoma housing? My son thought it would be a good idea to do burn outs in his truck and broke the teeth off of the side gears in his diff. I sourced a complete axle locally, but just want to make sure everything fits before picking it up. From what I can tell as long as the door stickers match up "A04A" we should be fine.

    I’m not positive.
But I believe most 06’ used a mechanical LSD.
I think most 12’ were Auto-LSD -Brake actuated?

    Again I’m not sure.
Don’t take my word for it.

It may work fine, but you could be loosing your Limited Slip?

    Maybe @Muddinfun will know?

I don't know anything about the axle codes, but... other than that, all we've got is that it's an '06 Taco. V6 or 4cyl? All V6 are 3.73 and all 4cyl are 4.10. Now, is the '06 a TRD sport or a TRD offroad, or non TRD? If it's a sport, it came with LSD. If it's an OR, it came with an ELocker.

    He says neither are Locker.

I’m just curious as to whether the new one was on an Auto-LSD truck?
Or was it from a Non LSD truck?
Or what the difference is in the Auto-LSD and others?

'05 to about '08 or '09 (can't remember the exact year) TRD sports came with a mechanical LSD. After that, all sports came with open diffs and the rear "LSD" was accomplished by the ABS stuff applying the brakes on the wheel that looses traction.
