NST Lite Weight Crank Pulley

This is a sweet Mod. Quality craftsmanship, about 50% lighter than the stock pulley, and install is some what a breeze with the right tools.

Thanks to Mike from NST, and also Taco skim I was able to get under my Taco and wrench away.

Install went like this:

1) Remove OEM skid Plate (4 12mm Bolts)

2) Counter tourqe the Tentioner (14mm Bolt turn Counter clockwise, and slide belt off. Place out of way from crank but keep it so that it's easy to route back into place).

3) Thread 2: 8 x 1.5 x 50mm bolts into crank prepositioned holes. (This helps keep in place so that you may remove crank bolt).

4) Use a 1/2" Breaker bar to loosen 22mm Crank bolt. (This was the toughest part. I actually broke my 1/2 socket adapter. That bolt is on their good. Had to go buy an actual socket that would fit the breakerbar, but oh well $10 @ Lowes and back in businness).

5) Once bolts out, stock pulley slides right off. Clean surface, and prep for NST pulley. Apply a little grease, align key notch to key on crank, and start pushing. (It was tight, but with lite tapping w/rubber mallet, and a little ambition, it will get in just enough to thread in the crank bolt. Apply a little locktite, and thread in the bolt).

Note: The Key notch is very hard to allign since it's inside the crank case. What I did was use an allen wrench as a guide. Also made a mark so I could line up. If done correctly the pulley will start to turn when contacting the case and will eventually slide right on to the knotch. You will know it worked once the pulley stays set.



6) You will then feel the crank starting to turn. (Install the two bolts from step 3, and this will help give just enough resistance to tourqe down the crank bolt. There are a few different torque specs being thrown out there, so I went w/200 ftlbs).



7) Next you retorque that tentioner and reroute the belt the way it was stock. Check to make sure nothing was missed, belts are alligned, and hell; Crank it up.

Oh, and the good thing for the non Xrunner Taco's is no need to jack up or put on stands. More than enough clearance to get the job done. Just 4 bolts on the bottom skid plate and go to work.

Results: I knew this would be a worth buy. Most Mods help out in the upper RPMs, ie.. Headers, Exhaust, MAF Cali.

The Crank Pulley helps by allowing your truck to get up to those upper RPMs quicker, and unleash that power thats just waiting to be released.

My truck practically wants to launch at the slightest touch of the pedal. Deffinately a whole lot more throttle response. I will hit the track for shits and giggles, but if you need some good ass in seat dyno comparison, put it like this:

All my Mods, added great power. MAF is awesome, but thats when I floor it. (Note, still not tuned, so more to come on that one). But, now with the pulley, my Truck is ripping through the RPMs as though I never through on Larger heavier AT Tires. Seriously, I had several people say my truck was fast (w/stock tires) and always felt I lost that when I went with the new bigger 33" shoes. But now this truck is kicking ass again. Want to throw on a stock set of tires and just smoke the Hell out of them LOL...

All in all it's worth the 140 bones, and install is a do it yourself deal so why not.

Nice Pic, How did you find the space. I barely had room to seat the crank in, but i gots to say, Get Er Done...

Once we removed the fan and the shourd and the grill we had plenty of room



Oh and she says she has better low end now, She's also running DTLT'S and the DT "pipe bomb"

Hmm... Tempting... verrrrry tempting. If any, are there negative effects to doing this? Long term etc? Does it at all make your MPG's get worse?

There are no long term negative effects of the lite crank pulley, and your MPG gets better.

Not sure if I read wrong, but the kit which is not out yet cost a little more than the crank pulley, it will be adding the Alternator and waterpump pulleys. Not sure if all 3 will be in the package. Thats why I went w/this buy. Shane is saving us $19.00. $140.00 shipped is the way to go. And I'm sure the more who get in on this mod, will request a group buy on the other pulley pkg coming soon.

 

Whats the weight difference between the two feel like?

I've also read that they were coming out within a few months but i can't seem to find the page...

 

I would say about 40-50% lighter. Did not actually use a scale. But very noticeable.

 

There will not be a package deal for the crank, water pump, and alternator. You will have to purchase the the crank and WP/ALT pulley separately.

OEM= 70oz NST= 40oz
