Do you offroad your 6MT?

Anyone tells you manual takes away from the experience hasn't spent much time with their hand on the shaft.

For me, rock crawling is better with an Auto, or possibly a MT with a tcase doubler.
Everything else, MT

 

That's just a whole different playing field for everyone.

All my trucks were MTs, i did go offroad quite a bit. Im not an extreme offroader by any means but Ive never had a situation where i thought auto would be better right now.

Like others have stated, i like the control the MT gives you when ascending/descending. You will never have overheating issues with MT as well, and you can always start your truck if your battery dies and you are in the middle of nowhere.

I can see how an auto will be better at low speed rock crawling.

I've never been a rock crawler but I had a 4spd manual 1978 Land Cruiser that I drove off-road and now I have a 6spd manual 2018 Tacoma that I have also off-roaded. I'd speculate that the skills you learn driving a manual will make you a better crawler when the day comes that there are only automatics and self driving vehicles on the market.

 

Unless you are doing crazy rock crawling, manual 1000%. The gear ratios are much better suited for this truck. Crawl control / MTS isn’t a huge loss as you have ATRAC and better gearing.

I put 50,000 on a 16 AT before I traded for a 17 MT. I would do that trade again no question. I’ve had this truck all over the country and never wished to have the auto back. I can hang out in 6 all day long on the highway and average 20+ mpg, I can cruise in 5 towing and average 12-14 mpg.

if I HAD to get a third gen auto, it would go straight from the dealer to getting 4.88s to put it more inline with the MT ratios so you could actually use 5/6 gear

Auto is better for day to day bullshit traffic and in case of zombie apocalypse when you might need to focus on more than just the enjoyment of driving...

 

I prefer my MT to my wife's auto, even in traffic. And I'm not worried about the zombies. Still 100% for me

 

If one needs that to “drop panties”, I’d say one is in trouble...

I’m not sure I can comment here as I have a gen 2 but I’ve never owned anything but a mt and have wheeled with both. Like anything it’s about your personal preference more than anything else. There’s a lot of pros and cons to either but as I’m getting a little older the idea of not having to step on the clutch pedal every 60 seconds has become pretty appealing especially for daily driving conditions.
