At this point I feel that anything I say will be used against me. Just the nature of this thread. One thing is clear though, you are not running 4.88s as if you were tou would know how many rpms you would get at 60mph.

I am running 4.88's and will be swapping them out for 5.29's! The only reason i didn't do 5.29's to began with they weren't available in 2016. AT running 34" tires lots of weight! 4.88's dont cut it even with the tune, the tune helps but 5.29's and a tune for them will make my truck drive like i want it to.

Not true - you don't run stock tire size and 0944 tune. Since you don't you can only speak for what you have no direct knowledge of. Go to 5.29's. I'm not going to bash you for that. Pretty sure they are going to provide better performance for your set-up. Hope Mat provides you a 5.29 tune SOON so you can fulfill your destiny. BTW - I have several 3rd Gen locals who run 5.29 and 35's and the Tune (base gearing and 4.88). Great setup. We agree to each their own.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this. But fuck me, will you morons shut up about gears and weakest link. Clearly you are giving opinions on personal information with no real engineering background or correct information / data to back up your bullshit. I agree, It’s a valid question but response are simply stupid. Start a new thread on hearsay if that’s what your after, please stop the crap in this thread unless you have hard facts to back it up.

smashed this, broke that, covered it up with tape and paint
    I mean
    At this juncture
We are waiting on more details or updates from Matt on our upgrade boost of choice.
And now that he has brought up the issue of gear specific tuning and possible limitations

    it’s a bit of relevance.

I will concede it’s a bit more of chit chat than anything else at the moment
    But I’d also consider
We are at least talking about things relevant to boosting and potential considerations that new readers to this post may not have considered

A smart person who isn’t super knowledgeable themselves on hearing issues with this truck
Or tunes in general has the opportunity to see that if they’re interested in the boost options that a ReGear might be worth postponing til post boost install

Try to be optimistic that we are discussing stuff relevant vs the past issues of trolls and bullshit topics about boosting other vehicles or whatever

edit: @OVTune if you’d like us to discontinue the chit chat on gears til you have more for us that’s cool too :)

This must’ve been maybe answered previously but I’m unable to find an answer. Should we expect a similar handheld device such as an AccessPort from CobbTune on i.e. Subaru’s, Focus ST/RS, etc.? I once had the ability to set calibrations on the fly which was nice before switching to a Tacoma.

There is a hand held option just now hitting the users’ mailboxes. I’ve had a Cobb in the past and its tune management was excellent. I don’t think these are quite as stylish or able to manage licensing as well, but they’ll get the job done just the same.

Perfect, thank you. This answered my question.

It’s obviously really nice to see live data versus just plugging in a tune and wondering if the rush you’re getting is placebo or not lol.

You're probably right, they probably can't manage licensing but like you said, they'll get the job done. And really, it wouldn't matter anyway. These handhelds have no extra step to take over the Cobb; I used to have an accessport when I had my MS3. Both the AP and OVT handheld (OVTHH?) require connection to a PC to load the tunes prior to connecting to your vehicle to flash :notsure:

All of this talk of breakage. Honestly, it's going to come down to driving style. Pulling a trailer up a steep grade? Feel free to drop down a gear, floor it and enjoy the torque from either a SC or Turbo setup. You'll be fine. Take your truck to the dragstrip and sidestep the clutch at 6000 rpm? You will break your shit for sure but you'd break it if the truck was unboosted also.

I was talking about my truck and setup I was not referring to stock tires in anyway . If it somehow came across I was giving info about stock tires and gearing, I was not . Just talking about my setup and how I want or hope to have it perform! I do have friends with 5.29's and have driven them and it is a big difference from 4.88's in my opinion.

I may have missed it in here but someone posted on FB that @MESO is now boosted! Does that mean he's testing a TT kit?
