Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

Replied to the other post with some information.

 

885s are for 2nd gens, I have 882s on a v6 doublecab prerunner and theyre really stiff. 885s would be ROUGH

 

2880,2881,&2882 are for 1st gens.

 

883's are for 1st gen too

 

I dont think they would fit, just get 880,881s,882s, or 883s. The ones made for our trucks

 

They fit.

 

I jus bought everything for an OME except struts as I already have 5100s under there. I got the 881s but one thing I noticed is that they’re more slender that whatever coils I currently have on there. The current ones could be stock for all I know. I’m curious if anyone can confirm this for me and do we foresee me having an issue getting them to match up with my bilsteins? Haven’t installed them yet because I’m chasing a power steering leak before I can drive it to the shop that’s gonna Install my suspension.

 

I don't think you'll want those on a 4cyl 1st gen. They gave me 2" of lift on a 2nd gen v6 4x4.

 

I have a general suspension/lift question. I use my 03 extra cab prerunner as a work truck. I carry a lot of weight all the time. I use a progressive aal that does a good job keeping my bed at stock height. My front suspension is stock.However the weight in the rear seams to be lifting my front end a little and I'm pretty sure it is affecting my steering and handling. My question is...if I increase the lift in the rear, whether new packs, air bags, blocks, shackles etc....and create a rake toward the front on the truck, will it bring my front end back down? Thanks for any input. .......anyone got pics of extra cabs with dakars w/aal under heavy load?

 

Im not going to speak on the other parts just because im not sure, but i would look into all pro expo packs. Theyre designed to hold more weight, the dakars are more for flex and dont take weight real well

 

Awesome thanks. I know I had steered away from the idea of deaver springs because of their flex and travel capabilities. Thought ome was geared toward heavy 4x4 rigs...but it makes sense that the 4x4 part would mean articulation.

 

Yeah sadly they dont hold much weight before sagging, the expo packs can hold 400-500lbs before they start to sag. Then theres always the option of a custom alcan pack lol

 

When I purchased my Tacoma in Arizona and reg'd in Ca it weighed 3180 lbs...was basically stock.

Later with mods and a camp load I'm up to a portly 5180 lbs (Frt 2560, Rr 2600). I am running the Dakar's with the 'Extra Leaf'. Also have ICON 2.5 shocks in the rear that provide a little lift too.

 

Thank you for the info. How did you determine the front and rear weights from one another?

 

Went to my local big truck weigh station. I parked the Tacoma over two of the scales pads.
It did look kind of silly my little Tacoma in line with big rigs.

 

Anyone running a diff drop? Any problems or improvements like no longer tearing cv boots?

 

I ordered my first suspension kit from Headstrong Offroad and had Milogen Fabrications in Milpitas, CA install my complete OME suspension kit. Parts installed by Milogen were:

883 front coils
Nitrogen Sport gas shocks
Dakar leaf springs
D43XL add a leaf
greasable shackles
Light Racing upper control arms

I'm waiting for Milogen to call me about my 2' stainless steel brake line, having it installed, and my brake lines bled by him. The truck handles great on the highway and can't want to drive it offroad once the stainless brake line upgrade & service is finished.

 

Can't remember if he does alignments or not. If you haven't had it aligned, put it on the to-do list. After tires of course

Milo had the alignment done by an outside shop that he does business with. I will be upgrading to a set of 16" OEM 4Runner aluminum alloy wheels & load range E tires very soon. I have plans that I will share with all of you soon. Getting the suspension upgrade was a priority since the worn out shocks & stock suspension made the truck handle poorly. Thanks for the compliment!
