soft shell or hard shell?

2001 Tacoma should I get Supertop Bestop or a hard top shell? what are plus/negatives of each.

 

I wish I'd gotten the BestTop, I love having a shell but wish it was foldable. It'd be great to have the rain/snow proof top and still be able to fold it if I need to haul something oversize.

 

I would say it depends on if you are concerned about securing the item in the bed. IF not i would go soft top. I have a hard top, but i live in snowy Montana, and have been know to camp out in mine. The hard shell keeps the bears out!!

 

I use to have a replacement top made by best top on my old Suzuki Sidekick. Descent construction. Not as well made as the original top but it worked. I was glad to see they offer a soft cap for the Tacoma. but as others here have said... if you have anything you want protected from lowlife thiefs than go with the hard top. I just had my $1000 racing bike stolen and the tool box in my truck broken into. Welcome to California I guess? anyhow, Just because of that reason there I'm looking for a hardtop instead.

 

If you only need it on occasion and like to be able to carry oversize items (dirt bikes, etc) then I'd definitely get the soft. If you're like me and sleep in the back, never help people move (unless it's for free beer), and keep valuables in the bed from time to time; then get a hard shell.

I love my Leer shell. Windoors are a must unless you like climbing all the way into the bed to get something out near the cab. A shell-mounted roof rack is handy too.

 

its doesnt matter what it is made of. if someone wants it bad enough, they will get it.

 

You want a shell. Specifically a white are impulse model. Of course I happen to know of one that is for sale cheap....

I have the hard shell which does get in the way sometimes but I also have several trailers to haul big stuff. I have taken the shell off to like haul a motorcycle a long distance one way in the bed when I didn't want to fool with the trailer.
I have a ladder rack on the shell to haul long lumber or ladders.
