I actually inquired with Toyota service department as well as parts departments before I ended up buying my TRD Sport, about the possibility of swapping out TRD style mirrors with those that come on SR5 models. It is NOT as simple as plug and play. There are no wires on the SR5 for the turn signals as there are on the TRD models. So as others have suggested, you would have to run another wire and connect it to the signals to make it work. That was one of the things I liked about the TRD versions, over the SR5, being the nice mirrors on the TRD with the turn signals in them. NOW, I would NOT have upgraded to the TRD just for the lighted turn signal mirrors! But it was just one of the other mitigating factors that worked into my decision to go for and upgrade to the TRD versions over the SR5 models.

Yes pretty well medicated. Still don't understand why you would go through the effort to get your mirrors to light up when you turn on your turn signals. Is it a status thing like lambo doors? Does it make the fact that bought a lower level model look like a higher level model? I mean why not go all the way and put the Pro badges on? I'm not busting balls, just curious to the rationale. Help me out here.

I think he's doing it because, and that's as good a reason as any.

Its not like he's doing a spacer lift or anything.

Please provide us with a comprehensive list of all mods you have performed on your vehicle so we can judge whether or not you’re stupid for doing so. Thanks in advance.

No need to assume anything. It's his truck and he can do whatever he likes, as can you. Also no need for you to shit on his question.

@JohnnyReb Any issues with the aftermarket mirrors from A1 Auto? I've been eyeballing them but read some reviews where some had issues with the mirror shaking/vibrating and some said mounting wasn't as flush like stock. TIA

So far they are doing fine. No mirror shaking. The pair i got came with new foam tape that goes between door and the plastic mounting plate on the mirror. For a better tight seal. Also $149.00 a pair is better price than oem hope this helps.

You my friend. Are a fucking idiot.

OP wants to modify his truck. Just like most of us on here want to do. He took a risk, and now is asking for some help.

If you enjoy being a dick. I suggest you head over to Grinder.

Edit: confirm the wires using a diagram or with other's comments. I also believe the parking brake off or on makes a difference when testing wires.

For my SR5, I added the power folding mirrors that I found on this forum (For Sale section). I bought the complete mirror set and swapped out my SR5 mirrors with aftermarket folding mirrors. I also had to buy painted mirror covers (OEM) from a Sport or Off Road. As before, I have the heated glass and power adjustment. The upgrade relates to power folding and the turn signals...2 extra wires in the mirrors harness. Cost about $680...I don't recall exactly.

I grounded one of the mirror light wires (ground) in the door...don't recall the wire color. The power wire, for the turn signal light, I ran through the door, into the cab, and directly to the headlight harness that connects to headlight...both sides. Tested the 3 wire harness plug, with a light probe tester and I found the wire that pulsed when I applied the turn signal (edit: confirm with diagram or other post). I soldered into that wire for each side--different colors...don't recall colors. I believe someone else found a blue wire in the cab, by the kick panel.

With an SR5 and Morimoto headlights, you cannot drive with (amber) DRL. It will burn out the amber if it remains on for DRL. White DRL run from a fuse tap, in the engine bay fuse box, that they include. The mirror turn signal light also stayed on with DRL on (edit: I may have connected the wrong wire). I drive with DRL off by turning the stalk to Off, during daylight driving.

    I'm happy.

You tapped the wrong wires. For others duplicating your setup, use the mirror and rear wires on post #15. No DRL menace...still get turn signals...

You are probably correct regarding the wire selection. I did not have a wiring diagram and I believe my error was in testing the wires with the truck off. I think I should have tested when the truck was running and without the parking brake activated. I am not sure. Since I have Morimoto XB headlights, I believe this will work for my set up. Anyone else should follow the other wiring suggestions. I will edit my previous post to warn others. Thank you.

Ty guys for the advice and input. I also appreciate the fun read as well.

To me, the side signal mirrors are an upgrade I feel is much needed to complete the Tacoma.
