I have a battery case that I really like so I don’t have access to my charging port and not sure it would work correctly if I connected to the usb on the case. I want to be able to sit my phone on the Qi charger and not think about it

Thanks to @Taco_Coma I installed my (his old) unit & bezel trim.

My initial thoughts after 1 day are:

    1. Sound is totally different than what I’m used to. It blew me away right away, not in a good way. I was shocked. I’ve got the kickers all the way around & it used to be a great sound. This new sound is almost “muffled” and the bass is totally gone. It seems like it’s even unplugged. I have to turn “loud mode” on thru the amplifier EQ just to even hear any bass. I’ve fucked with the settings up and down, left and right & cant find anything I like. Hopefully I’m missing something and someone can chime in, maybe I need to add a diff EQ app or something to the unit?

    2. Wireless car play is fucking awesome. It’s a slow start sometimes & didn’t connect once today. I just had to toggle the Bluetooth on my phone & it hooked up. This feature makes everything worth it.

For the price & wireless CarPlay you can’t beat it. I’ll deal with the minor nuances of this unit & hope to get the audio figured out. I drive for work & this is a huge upgrade over stock as is.

Oh I had a question about wiresless CarPlay, or maybe CarPlay in general. I can’t get the answer call & hang up call steering wheel controls to work in CarPlay. Anyone figure that out?

That was the one weird thing it would answer the call but with the Bluetooth of the head unit so it would go to a totally different menu for me. I couldn’t figure it out maybe someone on here has? As far as the sound is that through the wireless car play? How’s it sound when the cord is attached? I noticed the sound quality was better with the cord, and it had to be an Apple cord my anker one wouldn’t work well with it

    Hope you enjoy it

Edit: also connect the ground cable see if that helps with your sound quality

That’s just wireless CarPlay over Bluetooth connection, I haven’t tested a direct hook up with the cord yet.

I did end up attaching the ground, just sat it on the metal screw location of 1 of the 4 radio mounting bracket locations & screwed it down tight when I attached the radio to the truck.

I don't think that's a ground point, it's just floating there in the dash, and surrounded by plastic. There's one behind the passenger side of the dash, and then there's one in the passenger footwell, that's why I extended the wire to attach it there, bc the one behind the dash would've been a major pain in the ass to connect to

Definitely wireless CarPlay, but you need to get the built-in chip with the HU. That or the dongle is the only wireless CarPlay solution. See my previous description and the prices I paid for each item. They did counter so the offers were just a little less.

I don't know what speakers you might have, but I would say don't give up hope yet. There are so many settings. You might still be able to improve the audio quality. Mine was the JBL audio system. The sound is a little different and better. It seems more clear and less distant.

Same. I went from the stock radio. I had upgraded to some focals and it was ok. They do sounds better now but there are times that I am a bit eh its ok. maybe adding a better amp or DSP will improve it. You can cycle through DSP modes and EQ (at least on the PX6). I programmed it to a long hold on the "speak" button so I can cycle the DSP modes. Also there is a LOUD setting which I programed as a long hold of the hang up button. Pretty neat and technically more SWC control then before.

I did the “audio upgrade for less than $250” install. It’s a very popular option on the forum. Subaru kicker direct swap tweeters and 4 door speakers. I only had the entune plus SR5 grade head unit, not the JBL like you mentioned you have. I’m not saying the audio isn’t good, its still crisp and can get loud, its just something about it man. It just sounds off. Some songs it sounds good, some horrible. I have to use the “loud” setting though, without that its trash muffled no bass audio.

I feel you there the focals I got off crutchfield for around $250. A bunch of aftermarket speakers are not as bass heavy as the stock ones but you get other highs and other stuff. Some songs get some good mid basss others its empty. I did sound deaden the doors and that helped a ton.

Ok yeah that’s what I was hoping. And I have the JBL so hoping it works.

If you paid more for the chip and wireless add-on you will have it.

And here I am with too much bass and punch and need to dial it down. It's like an art to get just enough without overdoing it. I still haven't figured it out yet. With loudness on, it sounds fuller overall, but the bass/punch is overpowering, then with it off, it sounds empty overall and the lower freqs can be turned up to more normal levels. I have no experience in tuning an EQ and I just keep making a mess of it.

what I have found out is 2012-on JBL or not you order the same harness and setup. You do need to add $30 or so for the wireless CarPlay. I had to go back and order the canbus as I was advised wrong at first. I’d say it’s worth it. I love the programmable SWC. My front camera setup doesn’t work so need to rework that part to use a front camera. only big issue I have now is some apps specifically pandora non CarPlay Jair running the app it crashes periodically. so really only can play with CarPlay.
