Finally got around to watching El Camino. I finished watching Breaking Bad in 2014. Didn't know much about cars then so it's interesting noticing them all now. Jesse had a Tercel wagon. And starts his new life in an FJ62.

You missed the most obvious one.

The namesake of the movie is based partly on the car he drives away in, an El Camino.

Oh for sure but that's obvious like you said. It's just the background/less significant cars in this series are almost always interesting.

Thanks to being set and filmed in New Mexico of course.

Made me think of the Rampage. High MPG truck for the fuel crisis years.

There was a story on the Ridgeline club home page about the Chevy Avalance engineers that left GM and went to work for Honda to design the Ridgeline. There was a falling out between the engineers and bean counters at GM over the an in bed storage compartment and the tailgate. Some unique Ridgeline features were on the drawing board for the Avalance. I've met some of those ex-GM engineers in person and visited the Honda factory in Lincoln, AL. In the early Ridgeline club days, it had a number of Honda engineers as members. Club members often got the inside scoop and were able to spend the day a Honda factory and attend some product discussion sessions. It was fun in the early days to be in a car club that had members who designed and built the products. There was a retired Honda engineer who arranged for the club members to tour the factories. It was fun experience. I learned a lot about modern auto manufacturing and the the Just-In-Time (JIT) partner supply chain that helps me with part purchases for Japanese cars to this day.

Found this old post about meeting up with the chief engineer at the Marysville Ohio plant tour.

Yeah Honda developed a good JIT system. Toyota really championed it, lean manufacturing, with its The Toyota Way. But Honda being Japanese had a nice head start over American manufacturing on the lean manufacturing game. Toyota's supply chain system is amazing but their manufacturing practices are even more amazing.
I've only read eye accounts and stuff, I've never been in a Toyota factory but if they truly run the way that book explained it, it's gotta be a sight to behold. (of course that sight isn't gonna be for everyone to behold lolol)

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Did you ever see Toyotas parts supplier breakdowns from the mid 90s. They had each individual part that each factory or supplier provided laid out in spreadsheets and sorted in pictures of literally every part it took to make Toyotas entire USDM lineup that year. I played eye spy with Tacoma and LC parts.

I haven't seen that. Where'd you find that? Sounds very cool and sounds like Toyota, so detailed. I'm the biggest freaking nerd for Toyota, or really for any system that is so refined and perfected. It's beauty man.

Was gonna ask you if you get on 'Mud and if so does Idaho Doug still post? He was an engineer with the 80 series land cruiser design team or something like that. His posts were extremely informative

Still drives like butter. Had to replace the EGR modulator cause the diaphragm was shot. Kept getting a P0401 cause of it but now it's fixed.

I actually had to repair the clutch pedal because the spring had wore a large groove and the pedal lost full stroke. The master also needed a rebuild so I replaced both master/slave cylinders with new ones. Had those been in better shape you probably wouldn't have had any troubles with shifting. I can take off in 1st with no brake, just slowly releasing the clutch and it takes off like an automatic.
