    Hey y’all!

I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD OR and on hard accel from a stop I’m getting some vibration/shake in the steering wheel. I have 3k miles on the truck.

Medium acceleration like when I’m getting on highway on the on-ramp everything is smooth. Only happens on a hard acceleration from a dead stop.

I’m a first time Tacoma owner and wasn’t sure if it’s normal or not due to the duel driveshaft design of these trucks.

Does it feel like 1000's of tiny explosions?

Yes kinda. The wheel feels the same as it would at say 60mph with an out of balance tire. Like a shake vibration as I’m accelerating 3500rpm and up

It's called axle wrap. When this occurs, your driveline angles get out of whack briefly as the rear pinion nose rises towards the bed of the truck, which causes a distinct shudder. Most leaf sprung vehicles which don't have a traction type bar will experience this symptom. My prior Tacoma trucks all did this, as does my 2018 F150 4WD Ecoboost 3.5L under hard acceleration. If you drove something like a Ram 1500 with a coil sprung suspension, located by control arms, you wouldn't experience this.

That’s the plan unless it’s a known quirk on these trucks. Part of me thinks that’s how they are because of the duel driveshaft how they are designed.

don’t want to leave my truck for 3 days and have them call with the old “operating as designed”

Thank you so much! That’s the answer I was looking for. This is why I wanted to post before taking it to the dealer. If I brought it in it would have taken them 3 days to explain this to me.

    appreciate it!

Don't bother bringing it in IMHO.

As someone else pointed out, the drivelines in these trucks are not the most refined from an NVH perspective. Some vibrations are to be expected. Just enjoy your new truck and stop worrying!

I’m not. The explanation above makes perfect sense. I’m sure it’s completely normal. Thank you guys again!

You're welcome. Been looking at maybe buying a 2020 Pro, so I've been lurking on the forum. I have a lot of experience with the rear suspension and driveline geometry on Tacomas, so I figured I'd chime in.

Mine does the exact same thing. Also a 2019 TRD OR, DCSB. That explanation makes a lot of sense, thank you!

This thread should be flagged and archived in a FAC section for all new Tacoma owners. As new first-time Tacoma owner just a week ago, I too had the same question so I googled "Tacomaworld vibration under hard acceleration" which took me right here and gave me my answer. There must be thousands of others like me who never owned a vehicle with leaf springs... Heck, even my 1970 Chevelle had coils all around! I did suspect this vibration was probably normal, but I needed to know for sure.
