gotcha. I noticed minimal if any loss in ground clearance. And the oem ujoints are still plenty strong. Plus you get a Greasable slip yolk. Again you do you I’m just sharing my experience.

No loss in ground clearance at ride height or with the rear end fully drooped?

Yes, but thats not what that guy said. he said there are cons to running a 1pc shaft on a street truck. Which I dont think anyone has experienced hence why I was looking for clarification. Offroad clearance may be a different story based on terrain.

A 1 piece that is too long ie double cab long bed and or regearing for larger tires will cause the shaft 2 spin 2 fast and have a whip effect. This is for street trucks travelling at hwy speeds.

either one. Here is ride height. Same clearance as the two piece, access cab long bed.

Downside to a 1 piece on a road setup is the terminal velocity of the shaft. Depending on the exact setup, but speaking about a typical DCSB Tacoma, above 80-85 MPH (stock gears) you’ll have risks of it exceeding its terminal velocity and having shakes (aka at some point, destroying u-joints or itself).

Around me (Colorado), the speed limits are 75 MPH and traffic does 80-85. Several times a month I’m driving that scenario, so a 1 piece concerned me.

In a trail rig, that’s trailered, not so much a concern (80+ MPH that is).

Yeah, 2 piece with a 1310 double cardan joint has its negatives too, such as a reduction in strength.

As most things, it’s how you use your truck, how you use it most and what compromises you’re willing to make. Commute often at highway speeds over the 1-piece driveshafts ability and it isn’t ideal to have speed issues compared to the off-road benefits.
Mines a daily driver and while I do off-road, I don’t “wheel hard”, so the decrease in u-joint strength was a compromise I could justify and live with.

*”critical speed or terminal velocity or whatever the correct term for the situation is* been a long week..brain is mush.

two piece, one piece, 1/2 piece, no piece...No peace. Feels like every two weeks I learn then un-learn then re-learn ONE. MORE. THING. i have to work on/consider when building a truck. Does this forum help, or simply cost me money and gray hairs? :D

My TW one piece will be here Tuesday. I have a mild 3" lift and at first only had take off vibes, now the vibes are present at 50-60mph. My truck goes off road because of my hobbies, offroading however isnt a hobby. So when I am off road I'm taking it easy, avoiding obstacles as much as possible. I have a 2 mile commute to work and only do much interstate driving when going out west hunting or towing my boat down to the coast.
I am concerned about having got remove/cut my CB support, I am hoping for enough clearance to install the one piece DS and drive it on the roads to make sure it takes care of the vibes before I do something with it. The driveshaft is 4" so based on the spicer website the critical speed of the shaft is 3888 and the 1/2 critical speed is 3459. With my tire setup that should be 98mph and 87mph. Even driving out west I dont run at those speeds so I don't expect that to be an issue.
I'll post an update when I get the driveshaft installed.

    not much yet!

@jmanscotch what speeds were you getting the vibe? Ive had my carrier bearing replaced, all the joints replaced, driveshaft straightened and balanced and still can't get rid of these vibes. 60-73mph it has a high frequency drive shaft vibration (stops when you let off the gas) and my plan was to build a DC shaft just like yours. My vibes can be felt in the floor, seat and council and the rear view mirrors will blur. clears up almost entirely after 75. I've gone through the whole drive shaft angle study extensively as well, but nothing helps.

make sure that nothing is touching the driveshaft when the suspension is compressed too. I had that problem on my 49 chevy. When I would hit larger bumps, the shaft was coming in contact with the end of a screw head from the floor boards and where they mount. Wore a nice ring around my driveshaft. Thankfully I don't beat on that truck so I'm not concerned about it, but in other applications the compromised shaft could present problems.

Check the needle bearing on your driver side cv shaft. ECGS makes a solid bushing to replace shitty stock needle bearing. Check your pinion angles and maybe even wheel/tire balance. Just other problems that might or might not have anything 2 do with the vibes

This is what stopping me from ordering one piece drive shaft, I drive 70 miles a day and there’s a time I drive more than 80 Miles per hour. If you can, let us know how safe to drive more than 80 Mph without getting pull over.
