Axle hop type noise/feel going into reverse

2019 TRD OR when going from park to reverse on flat surface I am getting what i can best describe as a axle hop type sound and feel. IDK if the drums are sticking or there is something going on with the drive line and diff. Seems like if I apply less brake pressure it doesn't do it but then it almost jumps into reverse and rolls back due to lack of applying brakes.

I have a appointment today but wanted to see if any has had similar issue with less than 2k miles.

How does the transmission shift otherwise in the forward gears? Smooth? Any shift flares? Any check engine lights?

 

Shifts great as far as I can tell. I cant imagine the noise and feel are something normal that toyota would not correct. Gonna try to get some audio right now. stand by

 

My rear drums creak a bit when I put it in reverse and I don't have enough pressure on the brakes, but that's to be expected. Maybe that's the noise you're talking about?

Can you explain what you're doing around that time frame? It looks like maybe you are shifting it in and out of gear?

The sounds seem normal to me. I think its just the drum brakes, leafs, or the slip yoke creaking a bit as torque is applied.

 

I was just trying to get it to duplicate the noise feel I had been getting. It usually does it right when I put it into reverse but it didn’t do it this time so I was just going back-and-forth in my driveway and it seem to duplicate it at that point in the video but not as bad as it normally does if that makes sense

 

Are you parked on an incline when it happens?
Do you use the parking brake?

Possibly jamming up the parking pawl in the transmission?

 

I do use the parking break just natural habit I guess even when not needed on a flat surface like this was and has been when I hear feel the noise

 

So it doesn't happen when you use the parking brake?
There's pressure on the pawl if there is any movement after you release the brake in park.

 

Which noise are you concerned about exactly? The creaking-like noise, or the 'thunk'? If thunk, then splitbolt is right, it's likely the pressure relief on the pawl as you stick it in gear, combined with a bit of driveline slop as torque is applied to everything.

If its the creaking noise, I'm pretty sure its the drum brakes slipping slightly or leafs flexing a bit. Try pushing hard on the brake pedal before shifting it in gear and see if it still creaks.

Ok I see it now. My guess as to what's happening is either: 1) The torque from the driveshaft causes the rear brakes to slip/creak a bit if you aren't stepping on the brake pedal hard enough. or 2) The torque from the driveshaft causes the pinion angle to change ever so slightly, flexing the leaf springs and possibly also causing the drum brakes to slip/creak.

Either way I say it's 100% normal.
