I use space bags for everything. They were invaluable on my last 2 deployments because A) I was able to pack 4 bags of crap into 3, and B) everything inside stayed dry on a wet flight line (because those baggage bins are open to the weather).

Plus we didn’t have the option of space bags and rolling luggage.

to be completely honest, I don't know what a space bag is

I know what a kit bag is, and I know what a duffel bag is, and I know what a dead hooker bag is, but I couldn't pick a space bag out of a line-up

maybe they are the bags issued to space force guys?

*in case you are being serious, they are plastic bags with a one way valve used to essentially shrink wrap your stuff. Kinda like waterproof sacks or garbage bags only more air forcey.

Wife uses them to store seasonal clothes under the bed. Hooks the vacuum up to the fitting and they compress down considerably.

I wasn't issued shit - I had to buy the damn things. Learned my lesson in the 90's trying to leave an exercise in Panama where our bags sat in a giant open bin in the rain before getting loaded onto the C-5. Almost everything was ruined by the time we got back to home station. Packed everything in plastic after that. Once space bags hit the market, it was game over.

Surprised y'all didn't do the same thing - once baggage becomes cargo, no ones gives a crap about it until you get to the distant end.

I used the free large bin liners regularly. Especially for the crap that CIF would reject if it wasn’t better than brand new.

I don’t think space bags would work very well for duffle bags and ruck sacks. Plus wouldn’t be durable enough, I’ve ripped so many bags on ops or deployments. I always used heavy duty garbage bags then packed a few extras. When OR really hit the market I switched to their stuff sacks. Large with some mediums for the main pouch, mediums for the side pockets. Worked perfect even getting rained on at the patrol base.

And here I just had a roller duffel to put in my hotel room...

    ...

Seal line makes some nice dry bags with bleed air valves you can stuff into your GI stuff.
