We can all sit around and tell you not to worry, but if you're anything like me -- you're going to anyway.

Go trade, man. Get the V6 SR and add all the things you listed on your own for cheap (you don't get many extras on the SR5). The community can help you with the installs if you need it. You have the right to be happy, so don't sulk. Just go in there and buy what you want. "Learning to love" something is bullshit if you paid for it. Go get it done.

 

Ya, pretty big chunk of money. I think best thing to do is wait a year or so then trade it in.

Go drive v6 man, from what i heard its not a big difference in power. Maybe after you drive the v6, you will love your 4 cyl.

One thing for sure is that 2.7 is bulletproof.

Note that the V6 is almost as gutless as the 2.7 (I've had both). Just bite the bullet and get the F150 w/5.0 or 2.7 TT. Note that most Taco owners don't have the mad skills necessary to drive such a huge truck in "the city" or are unable to park the monster F150 in a normal sized Walmart parking space so be forewarned if you go the F150 route. Good luck!

It sounds like you did the right thing and purchased what you could afford. Stick with your SR and don't trade it in to the dealership. You will just end up getting screwed and owing more money. Purchase all the parts you want and upgrade your truck and enjoy it.

 

I have both an f150 and a 3rd gen. I like the f150 it's been a very reliable truck has the 5.0. I prefer driving my Tacoma

 

Your gut told you to stick to the SR to keep your monthly payments low. I suggest you listen. If affording the monthly payment is ever in question, you should absolutely err on the side of caution. Give yourself a good buffer because you never know when the unexpected might happen. Just drive it and enjoy it man. Lots of people cant even afford a new truck.

 

I love the cheaper insurance and easy tune ups. You do have to plan your time a little more carefully but I think you have the best truck on the Planet (next to mine, of course) Embrace the suck! If you can’t be fast, at least be cool

What were you driving before the Taco?

Personally, I wouldn't make a hasty decision about spending more money at this point, but try and appreciate the truck you have- the 4cyl is a fine engine.

 

I had buyers remorse during the drive home in my new 2017 SR. I drove the SR5 V-6, and wasn't impressed enough with the difference in power to justify the extra expense. The thing keeping me from buying the SR was it had no remote door locks. The dealer offered to install remote door locks to close the deal, so I bought the SR. I actually love the simplicity; manual A/C controls and lack of other gadgets, less to go wrong. After the remote door lock discussion, the only thing I checked was if it had BlueTooth audio, and I was sold. Driving home on the freeway in a drizzle, it was then I realized it didn't have cruise and intermittent wipers. When I bought it, I never thought to check. Every car after 1980 has intermittent wipers and cruise, right? I beat myself up the entire ride home.

I immediately got online, found this site, and came across the cruise control and intermittent wiper upgrades. What a weight off my shoulders to find it could be done so easily and inexpensively. I bought a set of Tacoma Sport wheels and tires locally that had 40 miles on them, added the Gen 2 running boards and WeatherTech mud flaps, and now I'm happy as a clam! The way I look at it, folks spend a lot of time and effort to de-badge, black out, etc., and mine came that way from the factory. I also personally prefer the lines of the truck without the fender flares, and love the fact that the 2.7 is still built in Japan! To the uninformed eye, mine looks like a $30K+ truck, not that I care.

 

Enjoy the SR. Sounds like you saved some money. That's a good thing.

3 ex-wives! Couldn't afford the TRD or 4wd Taco! Bought a 2008 4 cyl 2wd and drove it for 9 years (manual transmission). LOVED IT. Lost my mind and traded it for a 40 mpg Kia Forte. A little over a year later, (and a bit upside down) I traded that "green" vehicle for a 2019 Tacoma SR Access Cab. (Automatic). LOVE IT! Granted, I'm having to go through the adjustment with the unfamiliar transmission "issues." Want to "ect mode" all the time but am forcing myself to turn that off and push my foot down a bit harder. All that said, I bought what I bought because it was the best Toyota I could afford on my budget. If you can afford to upgrade to what you feel you need to be happy, go for it. If not . . . You have a good truck! Drive the Hell out of it!

4cyl=nice a reliable, easy to service, also less payments so more money for cool shit.

Some of the sickest rock crawler tacomas are 4cyl. Just dump all the $$ you saved into it so it becomes something people are jealous of.

T-case doubler, new gears, 35" tires, lockers all round, fenders, high clear bumpers, LT or possible Twin 4x4 I-beam swap. By the time you are done with that bitch it will make a TRD Pro look like a front wheel drive honda CRV with bald tires w/ a NPR sticker slapped on the back.

Edit*** in fact the only reason I got our 4x4 Sr5 4 door was for the baby we had. Up until 2017 I was hell bent on an access cab, manual, 4x4, 4cyl new for less than 28k. Now that would have probably been the best 3rd gen tacoma ever made by toyota...mechanically and looks wise.

 

I added all of that stuff for less than $500. You can too. (Well, except for the V6.)

If it's the last new truck you'll ever buy, it would be worth talking to them at least. It's important that you're happy with your truck the next several years. But don't let them tell you it's lost too much value, it didn't lose a lot because it's a Tacoma.
