Got my spring tsb approved. Question on billies

Just got the spring tsb approved after mild hassle. Sa lectured me on difference between tsb and recall and said I'd have to bring back motorcycle loaded on back to prove harsh ride. After politely refusing to spend any more of my time proving anything and asking for toyotas number, he said parts are ordered.

I want to go with billies up front. I know i can get them from down south motorsports, but question is whether he would put them in for me? If yes, would he hand me the new trd front shocks that come with the tsb? I'm capable of installing billies myself, but don't want to give the dealer a reason to refuse.

    Thanks!

They'll probably do it, but charge you the labor.

As for the TSB shocks, I would imagine you could get them -- since it's now your part.

The only major snag I can see is that they would have to be billed as 2 different jobs. The TSB gets billed as Toyota Service and the Billie install would be outside service. The outside service gets billed at a higher rate.

There also might be a stipulation in the TSB that once the parts are installed, they need to be inspected and tested before it is complete. So they would have to install, inspect and test the TSB shocks, then rip them out to install the Billies.

Not sure what kind of Taco you have, but if you already have blue/yellow Bilsteins, they will not be replaced.

My dealer refused to install any aftermarket parts and stated they would only install toyota parts. I was looking to do the same.

OK, I think I will install the Billies myself. I am going to order them from Downsouth and put them in.

Will they hassle me about putting in the rear springs and shocks while leaving the new billies intact up front? I don't want them to rip out my billies etc. and cause more headaches.

    Thanks guys.

Let them do the entire TSB then install the bisteins after you get it back. If they already tried to give you a problem, don't give them a reason to not do it.

Technical Service Bulletin. It's like a weak recall, but not everyone will get it.

The weak spring TSB replaces the rear leaf pack on TRD trucks with a stiffer leaf pack (has an added helper leaf) and the shocks & leaf on non-TRD prerunners and 4x4s (adds the shocks that came with the TRDs). The dealer inspects the truck to determine if it applies to you.

For the OP, I doubt they'll give you the shocks if you have them install the 5100s. They may install the 5100s but many won't. If you want the shocks, I'd get the TSB done first and then change out the shocks for the 5100s. I know they won't just give you the parts to do the job yourself.

Folks - here is the update: Just picked up my truck after having the spring TSB done and SA said that my stock shocks were already the updated spec and did not need to be replaced. I do see the new 4 leaf spring pack in the back, but he said the part numbers on the new shocks were exactly same as old ones, so they didn't do the shocks.

Since they ordered the necessary parts and did change out the springs, I don't have reason to suspect they were skimming on me. But has anyone heard this one before???

Do you have a TRD truck? If so, they won't replace the shocks. The TRD shocks are yellow and blue.

Since you're swapping out the shocks to 5100's anyway, does it even matter? The main deal is you got the 4-pack leafs now and on their dime. Now just get that shock swap done and another wheel alignment...you'll be sittin pretty!

Nope, doesn't matter. But it's a trust thing, I was just wondering if the dealer story was legit, that's all. Going to be putting in the billies up front pretty soon, thanks all.

You must have a 2009 or 2010. The shocks do not get replaced for these model years per TSB.
