Any aggressive A/T is fine in the snow, it's the slippery ice that causes accidents. This is why I chose an A/T with the 3 peak snow designation. Not sure if they consider it as the new "All Weather" tires, but I sure do!

    Duratracs for the win!

I’ve had Hankook I-Pikes for the past 6 seasons on 4 different sets of wheels. They’ve worn well and been quiet, but I have needed 4WD. That being said, with 4WD on, getting traction in any condition is like being on dry pavement.

My BFG KOs(1) were horrid in anything slippery, so unless the KO2 are better, I wouldn’t think of running them again.

I’ve got a set of base SR steel wheels for this season to change things up.

Next year I’m shooting for the moon. I’ve got FJ steel wheels painted argent and I’ll get a set of cloned TPMS. I’ll likely go Blizzaks, but the Nokians still have my interest. I don’t mind swapping out wheels and it sure beats wrecking wheels with road salt.

I think you have a misunderstanding of what makes a tire perform well in the winter. “Any aggressive A/T” is not even going to be as good as a basic all season tire. If you’re talking moderate depth loose snow and tire spinning to clear the lugs, then maybe you’re correct. Large tread blocks are the enemy of pretty much every condition except off-road.

Depending on how harsh your winter is.
I would get a set of winter wheels and tires.
I’ve run both bfg ko tires and duratracs.
Pretty happy with my general altimax artics last winter in Vt.
Of course they were new last year so?
I run blizzacks on the wife’s suby and they are awesome tires but pricey.
They both have a lot of siping and self clean well.

I think the OP is on board with good winter tires which is great but to anyone on the fence wanting an A/T, even a 3PMSF one, consider this- Sure your A/T will get you going quickly from a stop in the snow. But what really matters is being able to stop or quickly steer away from the idiots around you when they lose control.

I feel like I'm a broken record to everyone around me, but it's really the biggest and easiest performance mod you can do to handling... Better armor than skids and sliders in my mind. One accident in the snow/ice can do a lot more damage than just your rockers.

I run the Blizzacks DMV2 On Toyota 4 Runner takeoff rims. Found the rims on eBay, brand new from a dealer for $400 shipped. Can’t beat that price.

I did very good last winter with my new dealer pull offs in deep snow where I finally engaged 4Lo to camp with some TW members at a Sierra lake. But, the previous late Spring my OEM tires with 32,000 miles were terrible, same brand, style of tire. Tread depth makes a difference.

    Seriously? You're calling people out?

You got what looks to be great tires for deep snow and ice but look useless in any other condition. We've had Blizzaks on two cars. They're a great tire for the intended condition and almost dangerous in the dry.

For the conditions that I see and have driven in, I do just fine. Thanks.

And, I held my tongue yesterday, but since you're feeling all high and mighty, good traction in snow is had when a tire packs with snow. The coefficient of friction between snow and snow is higher than rubber and snow.

    Have a good one.

Not a fanboy at all, just haven’t had issues in the snow. On highway with ice and what not I would get tires specific to that

It's funny cuz I literally ordered some blizzaks this morning lol. I ran wildpeaks for 2 winters and if I lived somewhere snow and subfreezing temps were an occasional thing I would definitely stick with that.

I've had blizzaks before, and while you certainly need to be aware when on dry pavement above say 40°F, I'd still rather deal with that then all-season HT (like the dynapros my truck came with) in the snow.

It really comes down to matching the tires to your usual conditions. The AT3Ws were great my first winter, and acceptable last year but needed replacement before this coming winter. Since I leave for work when the plows are usually just getting started dedicated snow tires are worth the expense and slightly reduced dry performance to me.

What makes blizzaks bad in dry conditions?

Also those of you with blizzaks, are most of you getting DM-V2’s?

They aren't bad in dry conditions, just not as good as an all season. Winter tires tend to be more "squishy" if you poke the tread block with your finger it moves much easier.

On dry roads this translates to a slight disconnect, the vehicle wont react as quickly to inputs. It's not a drastic difference but noticable if you look for it.

Basically braking distance will increase, and cornering grip is reduced, compared to a similar tire in all-season compound.
