I never understood the reasoning to have the tooling for 2 totally different suspension setups. Seemed like it would of been cheaper to make them all 6 lugs.

 

Old people want a smaller truck thats cheaper?

 

I think they probably realized that with the 3rd gen, plus people just don't really want small trucks anymore in general. Excluding all of us in here of course. Except you @Sperrunner

 

Cost would in theory would be cheaper with one set suspension.

 

They could of had a lower sitting 6 lug design. Arms and springs are way cheaper to tool for than whole frames
