What do i need to know about putting in a sub?

So i have been thinking about adding a sub in to my truck. i have upgraded the stereo and speakers but know nothing about amps and subs. Im looking to do this on the cheaper end for now. here where my thoughts so far:

I need so insite on whether this is a good match up of parts. also i know nothing about wireing an amp so please share all ur knowledge on hooking a mild sub to an after market radio.

 

I do not think the amplifier you chose has enough sack.

I agree....that's about the worst amp in the entire world.

Find something that makes at least 300RMS at the ohm rating of whatever sub you think sounds good.

 

Yea, that's too cheap for an amp even if you're trying to do things on the cheap. I'm running a an 8" JL sub. Sounds good for a small sub and it's the perfect size to fit behind my passenger seat on the floor and I can still have my rear seat in my access cab folded down. Running it off an older Alpine amp that I reused from an old setup in a previous vehicle. About 300watts RMS and works for me.

 

^Truth....most people get it wrong though. It's counter intuitive but totally true.

This amp seems pretty good for the price.

I know this is a little bit more expensive (a little over $100 more) than the stuff your looking at. But trust me from experience do it right the first time and you will save a lot of money and disappointed from buying stuff that you will not be satisfied with.

 

A Dayton HO10" sub? Hellz yeah I would. Triple shorting rings in the motor and lots of other goodies in that sub. It's a proper piece of machinery for sure.

 

All depends on your price range and what you are looking to get out of your sub. I run a JL 12W6 powered by a JL 500/1. For the speakers they are all MB Quart powered by a 200.4 MB Quart amp. I will be upgrading to a 700.5 Boston Acustics because every time someone gets in the back seat they kick the settings on my 200.4. Since you upgraded your speakers it would make a hudge difference if you amp them especially if their components. My setup cost around $1,000 new but i bought some things on craigs list, if you do buy on craigs list make sure you know how to properly test out what your buying. Give me a price range and what you looking to get out of your system, ex. alot of base or high sound quality or both
