Their pitching staff is basically non existent, their farm system although improved is still away off. Trout and Simmons are really their only good players as of now. Kole Calhoun great defensive right fielder but you need more production out of the position same with Puljos at first base. Tommy LaStella would have to keep having seasons like last year. If they let Maddon build the team he wants to compete they have a chance.

He does but struggles against left handed pitching. On the mound he struggles with control a little 2-1 K-BB rate. I would love to see him switch to full time fielder or pitcher. I think it’s asking too much for a player to study both all opposing pitchers and batters for the teams you’re playing all season.

Though (given the stakes) they pulled him in the 5th, nice to see Greinke pitch really quite well. You can argue the Nats just blew all their RISP chances but Greinke made some great pitches all night and especially when he had to. His problem his whole career has been mostly him. He kept blaming my Royals for his lack of success, stopped doing that in 2009, and got the Cy Young.

Wow, Astros caught some serious breaks to win that game. Poor home plate umpiring. Lousy outfield play by Soto. But, to be fair, they finally got some timely hitting, and the Nats did not. Just how many men did they leave on base? I lost count.

Thankfully, my team is not in the Series or I'd be a nervous wreck.

All I know is that strike zone changed quite often last night and Sanchez got seriously screwed, while Houston seemed to benefit. Houston pitchers did finally begin throwing some nasty stuff, and had Nationals batter guessing poorly.
