Spidertrax spacers

Cool. Like i said, 11 years, no issues.

 

Not going to argue with what works. But it sounds reasonable to me to not check a bolt with Loctite.

 

But i never mentioned Loctite. I actually did not use Loctite. I installed the spacers just as you would a wheel. Again, 11 years. But i totally understand that there are always different ways to successfully complete the same task. I was only commenting about my real world application.

 

The trick is to to check it at about 10ft lbs less that what the original torque setting was.

 

Installation instruction specifies "Loctite". Don't know if they still do, but, Spidertrax used to come with a small tube of Loctite. Not following instructions is where people get into trouble.

 

Does Include the red loctite which supposedly requires heat to break free

I've heard that too. Seen / read lots of debate on this. I decide that a visual inspection is best for me.

 

I did require heat on only two of the studs. Probably should have used heat on the rest though.

 

It did come with Loctite. I elected not to use it because i had prior negative experiences with it. I did not get in to trouble whatsoever. Again, 11 years of a real world proven application. I went against the “opinion” of “most techs” & was still very successful at what i was trying to accomplish... I’m not sure what you’re trying accomplish here. This is weird.

 

I ran them on long travel tundras that had the rock warrior wheels. Had no issue beating the shit out of them off-road

I just followed the instructions. Retorqued even with loctite. Felt no budge, therefore no breaking of bond.

 

I'm trying to promote a correct installation to help those interested in making the correct decisions. Just because it worked for you doesn't mean that it will for everyone. That is strange isn't it?

You’re telling people not to re-torque because a fear of breaking bond.

 

Yes. Because if you break the bond, you are required to re-apply Loctite. So choose your poison.

 

The re torquing is to VERIFY.

 

Here’s what i can do for you. I can travel back in time & install my wheel spacers exactly how you want me to so there wont be any confusion. That way this weird ass conversation will never have happened & everyone will do what you say... See you in the future.

 

Yes I understand that. I have been through all the debates on this subject several years ago. If you torque and break the bond, it's necessary to re-apply Loctite and torque again. Myself and many others decided it was better to do a visual instead of risking breaking the bond. I still feel that this is best. And certainly better than not using Loctite at all.
