Test drove a 2020 MT OR, so I've now driven the 2020 in both the auto and manual transmissions. I really can't decide... The AT didn't seem sluggish to me like I've heard from current gen 3 owners, although I'm coming from a 4cylinder 2nd gen so it's all a noticeable upgrade for me. The MT doesn't get the push to start button which I guess makes sense. I've never had push to start and I think the whole system looks convenient, but I'm reading mixed reviews on it. Has anyone had both and still prefers the old school key method?

I want to do a lot of off roading but I'm novice, so I'm wondering if I should learn the hard way with the MT or go with the AT so I can get the crawl control and all that stuff that makes it easier. Think both transmissions have their pros and cons, this is tough.

I’ve had both an AT and MT 3rd Gen and personally prefer the MT. either way you decide, enjoy!

Cant beat PTS, i have PTS and my wifes car still has keys, I've gotten so used to not having to touch my keys that's it's become an inconvenience when we take her car to dig my keys out (I know first world problems). It is really nice feature I think once you have it you cant go back. Itll definitely be a deciding factor when we upgrade her car in a few years. plus in makes even more sense in the OR because or CC, that's the route I'd go personally.

From what I've been told over the years and 9 Tacoma's later, There is no way to actually "build" or "factory order" a Tacoma. Each dealer is said to receive a certain allocation of Tacoma's in a specific time frame. You could get extremely lucky and a dealer may have exactly what you want on the way to them. Otherwise, I'm told they can "go in" and request a change or changes to one of their allocations. Toyota may or may not "accept" these requests. If Toyota accepts the request the dealer will then receive the vehicle as specified. Again, this is ONLY what I have been told in the past.

It wouldn’t matter if it was a $5k car, a $45k truck or a $500k house. A couple grand is still a couple grand. A little leg work to save a couple grand is still usually time better spent than pissing it away to feel like a big shot and then having to earn it again.

I just purchased a 2020 off-road DC SB 4wd Automatic with premium and tech packages and a few misc options. Cement color. MSRP was $43,777 and I got it for $5,016 off at $38,761.

Guys, it's all about doing homework. I used this strategy found here on TW:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/so-you-want-to-buy-a-tacoma.475482/

I am located in Virginia. I tried to get one that was already made but a previous dealer I visited was being shady and said they would get the vehicle shipped to their lot from a dealer that already has it if I bought it or not because they didn't like the price I was asking. I'm assuming it's so they can control the market on it. I told the dealer I made a deal with and they found out and said they would just get it built. Now I am waiting for my build date.

If this is the case then I am SOL. They did say if the vehicle didn't come in the way we agreed it to be then I get a full refund of my deposit. If this does happens then I am back at square one looking for the OR VB I wanted and lots of time wasted.

3 types of posts in here

1-the person who pays a realistic amount
2-the person who claims to have bought the truck with an insane price because of their super duper bargaining skills
3-the person 3 posts down who claims to have beaten your price, no matter what you claim.

Just buy what you want and enjoy it.

Well said. My thought is that these are awesome trucks but they they arent the cheapest. It doesn’t matter if someone paid more or less than you. If you walk away with the truck you want for a price YOU are comfortable with, then who gives a fuck about anything else. I paid for the pro in Army Green because thats what I wanted. Very happy with the deal and the truck. Maybe a year from now, someone will get the same truck for way less. Good for them, but I’m happy with what I purchased and thats all that matters.

NOBODY was getting crazy deals on ‘19 Pro models until the last half of 2019. Once Toyota made the press release regarding the 2020 changes a lot of potential buyers held off for a 2020 model. Only then did the remaining 2019 Pro models start collecting dust on dealers lots. Toyota factory rebates and dealers discounts then started to help clear the remaining ‘19 Pro inventory.

The dealership that I ended up purchasing from had 31 2019 Pro models in inventory on August 30th. They were all sold within a 3-week timeframe.

Yikes, I'm in the market for a replacement and got my 2018 TRD OR, Tech, Premium for $36,550 + TTL a year ago. I'm prob better off trying to find a 2019 specced how I want. these 2020's aren't going to be getting cheap soon :(

I would think that perhaps the truck could be exactly as you specified or even "very close" to your specs. This may have to do with aftermarket or port installed accessories versus factory type stuff. At the end of the day, at least they promised you a full refund so you won't lose any money if it isn't exactly as desired. Perhaps go in and ask for a build sheet when they put the request in, look it over VERY carefully and make sure its correct. When they get the VIN they should be able to print this out for you even BEFORE it is built. I'd keep on them if I were you so you don't end up starting over.

Sounds legit to me. I'd go in and ask for a VIN and a build sheet. They should be able to get you this if the truck is due to be built that soon. Best of luck!

    Ouch!!! That’ll do it.

I did notice on one of those Allstate Mayhem commercials the other day a 3rd gen Taco gets rear ended.
