Cant get a firm pedal after bleeding brakes

I jut installed some SS lines in the rear from all pro and after getting them all hooked up, cant get a firm pedal, it just goes to the floor and their is a hissing sound when i press down the pedal and it seems to be coming from the front so i dont think the lines have a hole. but when i bleed the brakes, the oil doesnt come shooting out like the front does, it just slowly runs out. I have done it probably 30 times to each rear wheel. Any help would be great. Thanks...mike

hey when your bleeding them are you leaving the cover off and adding fluid

 

if you mean the master cylinder cover, no i have it on but i am adding fluid to it. Am i supposed to leave it off, i have always left it on and had no problems.

 

How did you bleed the brakes? Did you bleed at all 4 wheels?

 

ya i have done all 4, the fluid comes shooting out of the fronts but in the rears it just trickles out, i have gotten a few good spurts of air and fluid but the pedal still wasnt right and i kept doing it and it just trickles out.

 

Bleed the breaks starting from the left (driver) rear wheel... then right (passenger) rear wheel then bleed to passenger side front then to driver side front. You will need two people to bleed the brakes (unless you have fancy equipment). Even though you didn't touch the rear brakes... air could easily be trapped in the lines if the master cylinder was low.

 

like what procedure are you bleeding front then back? you should start the farthest away from the master cylinder so its on the driver side i think start bleeding the right rear tire until fluid come out then left rear then right front then left front make sure fluid level is full

 

Did you work from the rear driver side in a circle to the drive side front?

 

actually i havent done it one at a time all the way around, i have done the rears more often, just because the fluid shoots out of the fronts

 

Ok scratch everything you have done. And just start fresh. Fill up the master cylinder with dot brake fluid because you are prob low. Have a friend help you. Have him press on the brake all the way you can physically can to bleed it on the driver side rear then work in a circle to the driver front. You will prob have to do this a...........

ya i have done them before, this is the first time having problems like this, i usually do it the way you guys have explained, but i dont know, i guess since the fronts are shooting out fluid and the rears are just trickling, i kept working on the rears

 

Couple things...

Make sure the lines are installed correctly.

Make sure the master cylinder has plenty of fluid.

Start from the driver rear bleed the brakes until it shoots out fluid. You may have to bleed it a couple of times. Do you have someone able to help u?

edit... key part... make sure that when the line is open whoever inside presses down on the pedal all the way. Make sure they know NOT to release the pedal until you closed the valve. Do this process a couple times working to the cylinder.

 

ya i finally got it, they were holding down pedal cause they were telling me they were. It took about another 15-20 bleeds in the rear to get all the air out, i guess from swamping out the lines it had a ton of air in it. Thanks for the help
