Wanting to Upgrade my Taco

I’ve got a 2011 DCLB with nearly 200K on it. It’s been a solid truck but lately I’ve been getting the itch to maybe upgrade to a newer year Taco. Still want to stay with the DCLB but decided to see what you all think is the best year to buy newer than the 2011?

I need to upgrade my suspension and do a little work to my engine (valve cover gasket) are two major repairs needed right now. This isn’t why I’m looking at a newer model, I just want a newer truck!

So let me hear your thoughts....do I just do the repairs and upgrades and keep charging my 2011 or look into a newer year Taco?

 

@Titus139 If you can afford to buy a newer one, with cash (comfortably), and not take a loan, then I say DO IT - buy a newer one. I am partial to 2013-2015 of course. There's a nice looking DCLB in the BST thread if I recall.

If you would have to finance, I say fix up your current one. Freshen it up. Debt sucks IMO...

 

Honestly, start with looking into a new head unit. Apply carplay/andriod auto really refreshes the feel of the truck. New tires always gives a good feeling too.

 

Fix the one you have give it a face lift with a lift,new tires, and a head unit.

 

Take 5k if needed and fix everything that’s needs to be done and do some upgrades that you want and drive that thing another 200k.

 

My truck was a prerunner with 205k on it before I did 4x4 conversion. Have put about 3k in mods and upgrades in the last 2 months. Truck is paid off and in great shape.

 

That 'ole 'wanter' is what keeps most Americans from financial freedom.

If you are already there, good for you, and shop away.

If not, it sounds like you have a solid truck that is worth keeping.........

 

Did you do a write up on how you turned it into a 4WD? I'd love to know more about how you did it.

 

I did not unfortunately. I barely have the time to do my mods let alone document them. Hard to do a write up on a cell phone as well. It's easy, cost me about 2500 in parts total (I did all the labor). If you need any more info I'd be glad to go into detail about it.

 

I am interested in the basic information, not necessarily a full write up. Did you go with a solid axle? IFS with a frame swap? Which t case did you use? Did you replace the trans? I guess I'm looking for your parts list.

IFS from a 4runner, FJ cruiser transmission and transfer case (automatic), rock solid toys crossmember( dont waste your money make your own) new front wheel bearings and front axles, 4x4 rear driveshaft with modified center bracket. All the bolt holes are there, if your 2wd dont attempt an auto transfer case like stock, you will need entire truck wiring harness. Fj cruiser transfer case will have to have hole cut in floor.
