Reason I ask is because I am interested in purchasing a Bedslide for my 2015 Tacoma:

    https://www.bedslide.com/series-2-bedslide-1000-classic.html#!

From the pictures I've seen online, there appears to be a gap between the bed wheel well and the bedslide. If possible, I would like to minimize the gap between this to take advantage of bedside platform space.

The application guide shown on the link above shows the following information:

    Tacoma 5' Bed 02 - 15 58"L x 39.5"W 10-5839-CLS 105
    Tacoma 5' Bed 16 - C 58"L x 41.5"W 10-5841-CLS TBD

The bedslide for the 2016 - C Tacoma is 2 inches wider than the previous generation bedslide. This wider model seems appealing to me since it closes the gap at the wheel wells.

Bedslide has confirmed with me that the 41.5" width on the 3rd gen bedslide is the max width. Errors do happen and I wish to prevent that by confirming if anyone's bedslide 1000 Classic is in fact 41.5" by performing a field measurement.

Nice build! Any chance you have dimensions or a post about building it? I have a platform across the whole bed with 2x8s and 3/4” ply, but i think i want a bed on one half so that i can access underneath the platform without opening up the truck.

    Thanks!

It's literally half of the bed width and I added 2x4s to make the feet with inside the grooves of the bed. It's also tied down underneath with turnbuckles. I no longer have the platform.

I couldn't get the truck bed with canopy to seal up very well and got tired of sleeping in a dust filled bed. I installed a bed slide for cargo purposes and went with an RTT. The RTT is also gone because it was going to be a pain to remove when I needed the truck in the garage for maintenance. I use a ground tent for the time being until I figure out something new. Maybe a swag tent?

I have both ground tent and rtt.

Feel like ground tents are superior because of inconveniences like this

Fair enough. Thank you for answering all my questions! envision doing a half platform like yours and maybe a flat slide-out for the other side, then tiered sleeping levels for easy gear access/using the sliding platform as a cooking counter and transferring gear to cab for extended trips. Just got back from a 2 week road trip and it was a little bit of a pain that i had to get out to access gear under the platform, it gives me a project for the time being at least. :)

I feel like grounds tents are superior in pretty much every way.

    Just the basics
Or wind. Personally I'll sleep in the back of the truck most of the time. I do have a ground tent available if I want to sleep in it.

Tried this tent on our last outing:

I also prefer to sleep in the truck under the shell, but having the tent is handy for doing 'stand-up' things like putting on my pants... :D

This one is the Napier Sportz, a bit more involved to set up than a regular tent, but it fits the back of the truck/topper just fine, and it also has a screen vestibule (behind the truck in this photo) that saved our bacon on this trip, literally - we had to move cooking into it to get away from the thirsty bees that have taken up residence near our favorite dispersed camping site...

@butcherg I'm thinking of getting one of these too.
I have a tent that's the same size but has the instant popup framing.
Do you think I could use the instant popup framing from my current tent on this one.

I used my canopy I got at Costco. 10 x 10. Adjustable height. I can open or close the sides. Closed at night or in wind, open during the day. The zippered door wraps down the sides of the truck. It could be custom sewn to fit, but it works this way.
Provides shade. I can drive away without removing from the truck.

The frame poles on this tent are two-piece, joined at the roof edge by an angle connector. If your pop-up framing would handle that joint, maybe so...

We have a similar canopy, Harbor Freight special. Didn't come with side panels, dang... When we're sans tents, we set it up and back the trucks up to each side.
