this is interesting for me as I am curious about a CF hood as well but am curious as to this statement on the manufacturers site..

"Each lid/hatch is manufactured with an OEM skeleton underneath to ensure durability and stability."

Are they indicating that their carbon fiber hood is an actual overlay on top of a steel hood? I ask because my interest would be for the function of weight reduction and not cosmetic appearance even though I agree with you about the appearance as it does look impressive in your images.

Also, do you recall the weight of the carbon fiber hood and the weight savings gained from the swap.

no the carbon fiber is not an overlay on top of a OEM Hood...they only mean that the skeleton of the carbon fiber hood is identical of the skeleton on an OEM hood...its real carbon fiber not an overlay...

I was never planning to race my truck but from those that saw the CF Hood on my truck can attest to you that it weighed or felt like it weighed 1/3 of the weight of an OEM Hood...it was really light and with my Satoshi (RGM) at highway speed the hood wood flex from how light it was compared to the stock hood...what I mean is that when at higher speed the air pressure was greater on top and inside the engine bay so the hood would flex up and down...my dad didn't like that when borrowing my truck to go on ski trips...but it never gave me a problem...:D

Thank you for that. My plans would include painting mine to match the truck and have no problem with adding extra safety latches but don't have any high speed plans for this vehicle. I just know that I will be adding weight with other accessories and having weight saving options available is appreciated.

K so i want to buy a CF hood for the weight reduction but I keep reading horror stories on forums online of people's hood flying up on them. I HATE the look of hood pins so I don't want them. I frequently push 140mph. how sturdy is it?

I bought Aerocatch CF Plush Flush Locking Hood Latches, <-click for link, I just never got around to installing them before trading them for some parts...I still got them sitting in the garage and original box it was shipped in...if I ever decide to sell them just hit me up on here or XRU...

here's a video on how they work:

a lot of times peoples hoods were latched correctly or they may have cut the support bar that keeps the latch nice snug w/the hood...I cut my support bar and saw how much more flimsy the entire structure was when at higher rates of speed...so I ended up just buying another support bar and replacing the 1 I cut...after the the place the hood would flex was on top because of how light the CF material was...but it never gave me a problem and there were a ton of runs on pavement 100+MPH and 85+ on desert sand w/no problems at all...
