All in all, I still think it’s a better system than the alternative. Regardless, the #1 mandate at ICBC is “never pay out”. That’s how you get “employee of the month” there.

I'm guessing closer to 20k. Had a corolla banged up in the front less than that and it was bordering $12k.

Having competition isn't a bad thing. The rates we pay especially now with the new policies is unbelievable high, even with a max rate discount. But yes, it also could be much worse.

I’m not here to argue about that, but our rates are still lower than a lot of places in Canada, and you only have one entity to deal with, which can makes things less complicated when you have an accident, but for sure there are other models that work.

The hood needs to be replaced. The front bumper. The steel body panel all along the front drivers side. The drivers side door. The drivers side front wheel was twisted off the axel. The left headlight needs to be replaced. I have Geico insurance in the US as well as gap coverage. The dealership that sold me the gap coverage promised me it would cover it being totaled in mexico. The gap coverage policy actually says it won’t cover anything if Geico doesn’t cover anything. Geico won’t cover any damage in Mex. I have a separate insurance policy on it in mexico but they won’t pay anything for my truck because it was only a liability policy, and they won’t pay anything out for the liability because it wasn’t me driving it. Someone without a drivers license took the keys and then crashed it into 2 parked cars. I had to pay out $5,000usd on the scene to the other parties insurance companies to keep the federalis from confiscating my truck. Now it looks like I will have to pay cash to get it fixed because none of the insurance policies I have will cover any of the damage. I can’t sue or press charges against the person the took the truck on the joyride because I’m married to them, so I just have to get an idea on the cost to fix it because totaling it is not an option when you still owe $39,000 on the loan.

These are the parts I quoted, including the front bumper, fender apron, upper rad support, brackets, door skin, mirror, etc. I would say it's probably relatively accurate based on your description and picture. Would obviously need to see more to make sure. I kind of doubt there is frame damage, but again it can be hard to say without actually measuring things. Where is the truck now? Can you get a quote done at a local body shop?

Next time buy a manual so that the one you're married to can't drive it. O a Mexican might know how...

The truth of the matter is that in Canada, with gov’t insurance, the cost of claims gets passed down evenly to the policyholders. If the annual costs go up, everyone’s premiums go up.
So when they are short paying claims, it’s with your best interest in mind.
I’ve worked with all of the major Canadian carriers and they are actually much better than the US carriers.

can we please hear more about your unlicensed wife stealing your truck and crashing into cars at church? I know it’s not the point of the thread, but it’s very intriguing.
Also interested in the part about peeling off 5k in cash on the spot.

my only suggestion would be to have it towed to a dealer in Guadalajara, have them replace the suspension, and drive it home.
I’d probably leave the wife down there, and sell whatever shit she has in the states to offset the cost of fixing the truck.
or I’d put her on the Blvd and make her work it off.
    Sorry.

On the bright side, if it was your wife she can’t complain if you decide to go mod crazy since you need to buy a bunch of stuff anyways. I vote SAS haha.

Well, I've learned something here. If you're driving in Mexico and have an accident you need to have ~$5k in your pocket for bribe money. You should also have your car towed back to the states, and then let the insurance know you were involved in an accident some where without cameras.

www.car-parts.com. You have a rare color so you probably won't get lucky to find the same color but still cheaper than dealer parts.
