There are lots of Toyota autos well over 300k. The highest mileage Toyotas except for maybe the Corolla, are all autos. So you point sounds good, looks good, but is fake news, unless Honda or Ford or Dodge.

This is true! Many young people don't know how to drive a stick.

I learned to drive in an '87 Corolla FX16 hatchback, 5 speed. It was my brother's car. I remember him having me drive down a busy road. At the stoplight, he tells me I better not stall it or everyone behind us is gonna be pissed. Talk about pressure!

I love driving stick. We have a TC that isn't fast at all, but still fun to drive.

I actually prefer the auto for towing and off-roading. Plus, the 4runner doesn't even have the option anyway.

I like the engine. Even the manual. For my kind of driving, it’s perfect. No, I don’t go to the mall and I don’t go rock crawling. I drive kids to school/daycare and bikes/gear to the bike trails. Every now and then I haul brush and yard-related stuff...

Call me whatever, but again, for MY needs, both are perfect.

The pause is from the automatic transmission I have now, and I remember my manual and it's immediate transfer of power each time I turn a corner. Starting out from a stop, also.

The 3.5L will have the last laugh I’m thinking. Whether MT or Auto, these engines are proving to be very reliable.

No you don’t. You are mistaking complaining about shift points with failure, at least with the 3G. There have been no failures of note I can think of. Feel free to link ones I missed.

Toyota manuals as good as they are still have issues. There's always been issues with clutch master, slaves, pilot bearings and 2nd gear syncros, clutch pedal bushings or in some cases the dreaded firewall cracks. Now we have the latest TSB the 3rd gen that entails throwing away the entire clutch pedal and replacing with an updated part.

In all fairness, the auto transmission is a good quality unit mechanically. It is the shift program that needs work and triggers the odd person.

    fuck yeah. Love that.

some people apparently are trying to sell AT superiority over MT. There can only be one winner, and I will not let it be AT.
