Even a toyota salesman admitted to me the earlier has far less electronics and are more reliable.

And boy oh boy dont those salesmen really know their way around a truck?

I'd bet the guy couldn't tell you much beyond basic specs.

How does he know about electrical component count per vehicle?

If the short box is the problem, how often will your short box not do what you need to do? If you need to borrow or rent a larger truck every week or so because your short box won't do the job, yeah, get something longer. If only a time, or two pr. yr., that would be totally different. Be careful, it's easy to be one of those folks that see something brighter & shinier, then try to find reasons to justify needing it. Just my opinion !!

Name a time in human history that more electronics meant less things going wrong.

I have no idea, I wasn't around for many many years of human history

I can say for a fact that you placed importance on a salesman telling you something about vehicle engineering.

I'm telling you that's a pretty poor hook to hang your hat on

Keep what you have,as you will gain nothing with the 2015 except a little lower miles and a BIG payment.

Why would a salesman that makes money from selling new vehicals admit that old vehicals are better if it wasn't true? Wouldn't he try to convince you to trade in your older vehical for a new one so he can make money? Also a good salesman will know the differences between older models and newer ones and what new electronics have come out to make the newer vehical "better"

OP, I’d say 98% it wouldn’t be a wise financial decision to buy basically the exact same truck, mechanically speaking, that you have right now. If there’s that 2% chance that you actually haul a lot and need the longer bed or some other difference (I’m assuming they’re both 4x4 and DC?), then obviously you’d have to make that assessment yourself. But the biggest difference in 2nd gen years was actually 2009 when they got all the “I’ll drive for you” safety and traction control electronics. 2012 was obviously a facelift and a few new updates but yeah, you’d basically be getting traction control or whatever ha. Probably not worth payments. Unless you’re financially independent and have the difference saved up for the expense, id say pass and drive your Tacoma until it needs more maintenance than it’s worth (most likely a long time).

I would go look at it if I were you, and test drive the truck to see if you like it. Late 2nd Gen 12-15 Tacomas hold value better than any truck out there IMO. You can’t go wrong either way. Good luck.

I'm coming from a 97 Tacoma extended cab with the longer box. I had the 97 for close to 20 years. I have a trailer, but haul a four wheeler and firewood. I also use it for ice fishing. I like the fact of only 36000 miles. I would be trading and financing the rest, so I'm thinking to just keep the 07 and not have payments.
