Stock intake is already a true CAI..

 

I installed the ebay ARB knockoff snorkel over a year ago, works just fine with the supercharger. Didn't notice any negative effect on power or performance, and my intake temps according to my Torque app have stayed lower versus when I had the stock air intake. For what it's worth.

That being said I don't think it's worth it to install a snorkel just to have a snorkel. It's useful if you wheel in dry/dusty conditions but otherwise I'd just keep the stock air intake. For street driving it pulls air from the wheel well protected by the fender liners which is more than adequate for being on the street. Many aftermarket CAIs move the intake into the engine bay where the air is warmer.

 

Happen to be looking in this thread and the eBay snorkel came up. I also have one and it’s been working great.

I’ll also add that a snorkel is beneficial for someone who doesn’t run any finder liner (am I saying that correct?). I took off my fender flares and liner. I will be trimming my fenders soon too. So I don’t run any liner and that would expose the stock intake tube.

That reminds me I did a trail run today and it started snowing real good. Should of checked my filter. Oh well, I’ll have to check it tomorrow.

Softopper. It’s expensive and is the only option for a 1st gen Double Cab. But I’m glad I got it for times like this or hitting a dusty trail. Having the option to put the top down makes it easy to load stuff or get into the bed when I need to or when I haul items that are taller than my roof line. I also like the ability to put the sides up and have the dogs in the back.

I went up to Strawberry Lake. It’s one of the many trails we have here in this area (Bald Mountain).

Pretty cool to see since on my way up there was no snow and it was sunny with some over cast. Started when I got to the lake and I didn’t think much of it at first because it didn’t feel that cold and there was again no snow in sight. With in minutes more and more came down. So I thought it was a good time to start heading back. 15 minutes into the trail and it was covered in snow. Made the best of it and got into an open area to play with the dogs in the snow Good thing for GPS or I would of got lost with all the fresh powder.

That is awesome! Little weird too? Didn't even think we had any rain activity (well, snow) out that way.

Heard quite a bit about that destination. As I understand it, my bumper has been up there on more than one occasion (@2BeersPlease).

Yeah I think that’s what I’m going to try to do. I basically did the same when I just did the lines, just pulled it back slightly.

Yeah they need to be able to hold themselves up. That one is toast ha, could use it as a trail spare but I’ve never seen one of those brake on a first gen

 

the neck is a vital part of Tacoma maintenance

Both sides are toast. Annoyed since they were brand new OEM when the rack was brand new in 2017. Going to replace those, and the LBJ's even though they are still tight, they don't hold their position anymore either. Those I'll still carry as trail spares though. I'm surprised my OTRE's are still tight, pretty stoked about that.

 

With the struts is there a way to still remove the hood if you need to? Looks like strut is riveted in both attachment points

 

It's fine.

They are only strong enough to do that when they are brand new. As long as it doesn't have any in and out play.

 

The struts are like any other strut for hoods or tailgates or whatever. They are replaceable without having to remove the mounting brackets. They have a ball end with a clip that pops in and out to secure the strut.

So yes, the hood can be removed still.

 

Yeah no in and out play. Same with the LBJ's. But those I like to be overly cautious with and could use some trail spares anyway.

I realize it's probably overkill, but I replace the PVC Valve / Grommet about every two years. In that short time the dang rubber grommet is still a pain to get out!
